I was contemplating a second yes lineup, since it is possible that Wakeman, Rabin, and Anderson will eventually make another Yes album, even if it's not a Yes album in name. It's been done before. Who would you pick as a bass player and the drummer to join forces with Jon, Rick, and Trevor? Me?
I feel Billy Sherwood would be a good fit for a bass player. He's been in Yes before, he can write, he can sing, and Squire taught him everything he knows bass. I adore his bass grooves on the Circa albums.
How about Mike Portnoy for drummer? He writes, sings, and I feel he would add something to Yes, they have never had. He's no Bruford, or Alan White for that matter. He's something else!
The way I figure it. Portnoy and Sherwood would join "Yes Version 23", if offered. All five of these guys can write. Four of them can sing, so the harmonies would be incredible with Jon writing them. The only caveat is I can't know how rusty Trevor Rabin's guitar playing is... Who would you pick as your bass player and drummer? And what would you name your band's lineup? |

I for one would rather they retired with dignity. However, since the question has been asked, I could never see Sherwood playing with Anderson again. He was and is Squire's pal, and Anderson reportedly was as eager as Howe to see the back of him the first time.
I would go for Levin, who did ABWH. Portnoy on drums would be fun. Band name. Better Than Those Other Geezers.

John Jowett on bass, Gavin Harrison on drums.
If you want to be the best, hire the best.
(Oh, and kick out that old fart Wakeman and plead with Martin Orford to take his place).

I can guarantee it won't be as good as any of Glass Hammers last 3 albums so they needn't bother really.

No greatness has ever come from the combination of Yes and Billy Sherwood or Trevor Rabin for that matter.

But wouldn't that lead to Teakbois Part II? We could call the band Patois.

Bruford on drums, although since he's retired now, maybe Csorsz on drums, and Levin on bass.

I really like the Jon Jowitt choice. He would fit in quite well. As for the drummer? Portnoy would be a really cool choice.
Let's call the band. YUP |

I was about to post that you beat me to it.... Anyway Wakeman Bruford Anderson Howe Anything else is not good enough tho i loved Jon Davison's vox in concert - seeing him live showed me how good he really is. Heres one of my clips I took with my crappy phone in Melbourne - Aussie Byrd Brother was sitting behind me too up the back |

^^^^ Dumb ushers were awful that night not letting me tape the whole thing with visual so I had to tape rest of concert with black screen only
Yes live Melbourne St Kilda Palais Theatre on 11 April 2012 singing "Your Move/All Good People". I recorded it sneakily way up the back of the theatre as the ushers were strict and stopped everyone from filming. The quality is not great but it captures the sound well. At the end the usher walked all the way up the back and told me to stop filming - you can hear her at the end of the clip.

Um... Have a listen to samples from his latest album Jacaranda.
Bass: Tony Levin, I guess, even though I don't think he's really a good fit, stylistically speaking. (As much as I like Billy Sherwood, I don't see that happening.) Drums: Deen Castronovo, currently with Journey. He can play, and he's got a great voice. He's certainly bombastic enough for Yes.
CRAWL: Castronovo Rabin Anderson Wakeman Levin
