We went to elementary school together and we played on the same little league baseball team from the ages of 5 to 12. I stayed in the public school system, but he went to Catholic school following elementary school, and we pretty much lost touch after that. My parents lived in the same area as his parents in Florida and my mom used to get haircuts from his mom, so I would hear news bits here and there but that is pretty much the extent of any connection I have had with him in the past 25 years. Even so, I feel like I was just punched in the gut. |
Sorry to hear that :(

Good stuff. What does the CD & LP collection maintenance entail? | Currently I'm archiving a bunch of music I only have on CDR, taking it off my shelf, converting to mp3 files and storing them on data DVDs if they're things I rarely (or never) listen to. Just trying to maximize shelf and disk space. For the LPs, it's more a matter of filing them away with the collection (listening to them first, if possible), since I have about 30 new ones I haven't put away yet. It's not hard work, but it does take time, and it's nice when I can block off a few hours on the weekend for that kind of thing. Plus I get to listen to my records while I do it. Right now it's "The Missing Piece" by Gentle Giant, one of my newest vinyl acquisitions.
| The Missing Piece is a really great album, and given a lot of undeserved hatred. How are you enjoying Illusions On A Double Dimple and Vincebus Eruptum?
|
Been enjoying Double Dimple tons and tons, haven't played Vincebus yet but I remember hearing it many years ago. It's queued up for the drive to work tomorrow.
Hey by the way, I've recently bought a couple of Passport albums (also vinyl) because of you too, and they're really cool. Cross Collateral and Second Passport are the ones I have. How do you rate those?

Sad news. I'm sure that brought back a lot of memories. I remember at my 20 year high school reunion I found out that one of my childhood friends had died. It had been so long that I wasn't really sure how to feel, but it really made me think.

I'm feeling crappier now than I did earlier. I thought I'd finally gotten over this allergy thing, but I guess not.

I've had a frog, aka phlegm monster, living in my throat all week. I think it has something to do with sitting outside in freezing rain watching the baseball games last week, but who knows.

I haven't gotten over mine in 5 years. Really been acting up this year. Last year as significantly less bad.

I appreciate your guys' sympathy, but it probably isn't really deserved or necessary. He hasn't been a part of my life in years, so it seems strange to be affected by his loss. | Gee, I don't know Scott.
Year or two ago, I was at a relative's birthday party at the park. Ran into a woman who lived within five minutes of us walking distance (when I was growing up). Her son Joel was a school friend of my brother's.
Found out then- never heard anything about it until then- that Joel was working construction equipment and a piece fell on him and killed him. I swam in a dirty lake with that kid back in the early 90s.
Even though that was my brother's friend, I felt a little "deader" inside, if that makes any sense.

My half sister took her own life a few years back. I didn't know her and had only met her as a little kid, but I still felt kind of empty.

Thanks for your reply, Steve. I rate both those Passport albums 5 stars, they are from that classic period of the band that could do no wrong. Interesting thing about Second Passport is keys player John Mealing, who was also in the groups If and The Strawbs. He's great. Those two albums are some of the greatest fusion by anybody, ever. Enjoy! (Oh, by the way, don't know if you've heard it, but i would highly recommend Blue Cheer's second album, Outsideinside, which i feel is their best. One of the ultimate heavy, acid rock freakout albums of the sixties!)
