I can’t get all the clues to fit with George Sand, but I guess her anyway.

Hooray!

After I answered, I checked your last hint and saw that it was Turgenev’s discription of her. But born in 75, died in 36? the smoker is obviously Sand herself, while the coughing one must be Chopin (I’ve read the book; my brother translated it). Charlie … is that Sainte-Beuve? Dawn: Dawn D. Eidelman? Or the fact that she wrote from midnight to dawn?

I see that owe you some answers:

Born in 75, died in 36
This hint refers to the department numbers of Paris(75), where she was born, and Indre(36), where she died.
Charlie
Charlie is Charles Baudelaire, who criticised her with sharp words. Honoré de Balzac made the remark about inadequate standards. I think I did not read it well enough since Baudelaire criticised her ideas on morals and not her writing.
Dawn
One of her first names, the one by which she was addressed, was Aurore, meaning Dawn.

Thanks! Have you read her Majorca book? It’s highly amusing.

Now for the next one: another female, but this time still alive.

I haven't read any of he books. To be honest, I have not read much literature.

Now to the next one: Is she European?
