I tjink matt will enjoy this bizarre clip:

I like that song but not the whole album.

That is the wonderful Annie Clark (St.Vincent) - as her stage/professional name. She is wondrous musician; I highly suggest you check out her stuff. She draws from a wide array of influences, as you can tell from the video too, and she has such a distinct style. Are you fan of Indie Rock or Pop?

Some of each, but not a lot of either.

Also, a friend showed me that Grimes tune a while back; she's really into a lot of Electronic sub-genres. At first, I absolutely didn't get it, but after a few listens, I kind of started to have an epiphany for my opinion on electronic music. You a big fan?

Also, check out Marriages and Red Sparrowes. A little bit on the heavy side though.

As far as synthpop type stuff goes, Purity Ring is the best I've heard this year.

I'll check em out. I also remembered Explosions in the Sky who I'm re-checking out now.

No, I know you are of course, Matt. I was referring to destindo, but I guess he's away at the moment. But on the topic of Electronic and Purity Ring,  I've heard of them before, but like I've said before, Electronic is hot and cold for me. Skrillex has kind of flawed, or benefited the genre, in whatever context you want to see it through, for better or for worse. What's your opinion on Skrillex and Dubstep? Seeing as your familiarized with the genre.  Approve

I think the style of dubstep Skrillex has popularized is catchy, fun, club friendly kind of music, and isn't necessarily bad in and of itself, but it is somewhat sad that people will hear Skrillex and say "I hate dubstep" when they've never heard "real" dubstep that is nothing like his style of music.

Honestly, on a regular basis, how annoying am I on a scale of one to ten? Ten being the most annoying

I'm not sure where I'd put you on a scale but I can say you've generally came down a few notches since you first started Shredding.

yeah, at first I was even more socially awkward than I am now. Those first few months were kind of like a training ground for human interaction, something I hadn't done regularly for years.

Yeah very true. So are you implying that Skrillex isn't really representative of his genre of music? I don't really have a basis on that since I've only heard a couple of some true, representative dubstep tunes, but I can tell you that I've enjoyed them greatly compared to Scary Monsters.

I'm no expert on the electronic genre but I like some of Skrillex's songs, say, about a third of his full catalog, and Brostep in general is pretty likeable for me. "Real" dubstep is a little more challenging to me and hard to get my head around.

Yeah, a lot of my friends are big into Electronic and related genres and they're always suggesting me certain artists and such. One friend gave me Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites to borrow. This is when the dubstep was becoming a big phenomenon, and almost a fashion, if that doesn't sound too pretentious? LOL I didn't know what to expect, but I put it on and I was kind of in shock - I really hadn't heard anything like beforehand. Mind you, I wasn't experienced with electo before that either too, so it was a ear opener. I still can't really get into it though - it's too in your face or something. Maybe I just don't like the electronic rhythms? Which albums did you listen to Andrew?

My Name is Skrillex
Only liked the opening track

Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites
Liked about a third of it

More More monsters and Sprites
Liked the opening track

k, so my estimation of liking a third of his catalog was wrong

Check out these guys Andrew. I just recently got into them. Sort of a Post-Rock, IDM hybrid - very cool. Thumbs Up

I prefer the spacious, relaxed feel of Burial-type dubstep to the aggressive in your face Skrillex style stuff, it makes me wish I lived in a big city so I could wander around empty streets at 3 am listening to music.
