Thanks, we have a very good time! They’re leaving on Sunday, so we’ll see them once more before they return to Berlin.

It was certainly difficult enough for me, especially since I didn’t take notice of the N and the first number. I was either blind or really absent minded.
Here’s a new one: Female, alive.

You found him at last. I added a new element to the puzzle: you may have noticed some letters and numbers between braces.
These read: N 34°11'55.6" E 43°52'24.2". Wikipedia gives these as the coordinates of the al-Askari mosque, built on the place where Muhammad al-Mahdi disappeared according to the Twelvers (to make it a bit more difficult, I converted them to degrees, minutes and seconds).

I’m not very proud to solve this, but your last hint led me directly to Muhammad al-Mahdi.

No, not from Syria.

Yes. A place related to him has been attacked twice within 16 months.

My kid brother is here with his girlfriend and their two sons. I hadn’t seen them for four years – well, actually the boys are 3 1/2 and 2 years old, so I had never seen them at all until Thursday. For that reason I don’t have much time for this game these days. I could probably have found the answer now if I googled a bit. Instead I have a new question: A kind of religious leader?

No, not in the Quran, but some hadiths refer to him. You're getting close.
Twelve.
