Well, I went to a few in the late 80's, but we didn't actually see the band Embarrassed  We were there for, um, other reasons Party

However, I saw two shows in Las Vegas in 1993 and they were easily the best live performance I've ever seen in my life.  Just incredible.  I saw one of Jerry's last shows in Pittsburgh in 1995 (literally just a few days before he died).  That one was not very good, and was dominated by Bob Weir (who I really like, but nearly a whole show of his tunes was not what I wanted to see).  Jerry still was excellent on guitar, but the few vocals he did were terrible.  The band in general was just not as "on" as they were in Vegas.  All in all, there was nothing like them live, and still isn't.

Never saw Phish, but have heard many live shows from them.  I wish I could have seen them in their heyday, but at the time I just thought they were Dead wannabes.  Truth be told I'm not crazy about most of their music either, though the first album is killer and 100% prog.

you were at shows for other reasons?  what could you possibly meanWink

my last show was that pittsburgh show too.  it rained like hell and rusted root opened.  they played a bunch of rain themed songs.  i remember it being an okay show.  it was kind of weird because it worked out that a bunch of my deadhead friends and i were able to meet up at that show and, unknowingly, have farewell party.  incidentally, i saw more naked people at that show than any other.  unfortunately, most were men :(

93 was a good year.  they band was touch and go, but so much fun to see live.  i don't' know why, they just ruled!  i loved garcia's guitar sound and everyone in the band had great personalities.  anyway, i miss those days.  especially in the fall.  loved fall tour.  got to go to MSG and Philly a few times.

as far as phish goes, their first four albums are pure prog as far as i can tell.  they have kind of a goofy personality though.

^ Cool, thank you for joining us.  I checked out your website and you've certainly landed a few great bands there.  Obviously, I'm a big fan of The Flower Kings and their extended family, but Riverside and Paatos are strong pick ups as well.  Good luck in your endeavors.

Any chance of a Flower Kings US tour?  (and just for the record, while Riverside and The Flower Kings aren't exactly in the style of music, I'd love to see a double bill with both of those bands).

Thanks again for posting.

Tom, Roine has stated more than once that there will be a US tour.  Other members have mentioned this on facebook.  So it looks like it's a sure thing, just not announced yet.  I'm guessing it's probably going to be in the spring, but I don't no as Roine has not given any details as yet.

Not a big fan of Riverside myself, but did enjoy their set at Nearfest a few years ago (as did my girlfriend).  I find I enjoy many bands in a live setting that I don't enjoy as much listening to their studio albums (Grateful Dead is a perfect example of this.........but so are a lot of RIO/Avante prog bands).

excellent point!  i too would like to see many prog bands live that really do nothing for me on record.  riverside is one of those bands.  i went to see dream theater last year on a whim know it would be entertaining.  i was not a fan at all, but being a prog fan, live prog metal would be entertaining.  i left that show with DT being one of my new favorite bands!  moral of the story, these bands need to tour!!  that being said, i don't want to see TFK on a double bill, unless they still go their full set.  must leave time for the bust out full version of Garden of DreamsWink

I don't know how many of the regulars are paying attention to the Flower Kings Survivor polls but they've made it up to "Paradox Hotel".  I was amazed, "Touch My Heaven" was eliminated in the first round which amazed me.  What do you all think of the song?

Me, it's one of my favorites.  In all honesty though, I can see the dislike.  If you listen only to the first couple of minutes, it's kind of boring, the blistering Roine blues solo at the end is absolutely phenomenal though.  What do you all think of the song?

Hi Tom, how's things your side of the pond?

I've not really been paying much attention to those Survivor polls, they're much too slow moving for me.  I've just had a look however and that's a real surprise to be honest.  Touch My Heaven is a great song (I tend to always like the Bodin-composed tunes) with a superb solo and there's quite a few I'd have elbowed before that.  I think I might just go and cast a vote.  P'raps Unorthodox Dancing Lesson?
