Try their album "The Hoople", my favourite.

If we are going to go be pure technical talent/speed and what-not, I'd go with Virgil Donati (f)actually.

I was actually rooting for DT to pick him over Mangini, until I saw Mangini and then I was like "well...ok, he'd be a pretty good fit." LOL

Lol Virgil got beat out by Mangini in the dream theater audition. You gotta be the best to play in Dream Theater and Mangini took it all the way!! Watch the audition in the video 'Spirit carries on'

Hey.  Want to know who is a far more talented drummer than Mangini, both in terms of composition and skill?

Maybe it helps to have a far more interesting band to work with...

There's no such things as the greatest drummer of all time, there's only favourites. For instance, my favourite drummer is Carl Palmer from Emerson, Lake & Palmer, but I would never be stupid enough to proclaim him the greatest drummer of all time. Because the enjoyment of music is purely opinion based.

It was obviously a fun opening post that produced a lot of amusing replies. Music is art and such is subjective.

Yeah, I think I can agree to Danny being a better drummer than Mangini.

Of course, a guy who can play as many genres and styles as he can probably makes him a better drummer than Mangini. Wink

Also, I'm impressed this thread's gotten through 19 pages so far. I think I'm with Logan, it's definitely a gift that keeps on giving. LOL

OK...so, I can start calling groups "The Beetles", "Lead Zeppelin", and "Leonard Skynard"?
Sure.

Don't forget Van der Graaff Generator.

And be sure to use Googol instead of Google - we've suffered Larry Page's spelling mistake long enough.

What about Steve Gadd, Glen Velez, Trilok Gurtu, Zakir Hussein, Mattias Olsson, Martin Axenrot, Tony Williams, Billy Cobham, Thomas Pridgen and that guy with Tony Bennet?

^ I guess they are all equally best. Me personally, I'm not a fan of Gadd (though I do know a bit about him). I could really vouch for Gurtu and Cobham. I gotta check out Williams, though.

Isn't Steve Gadd Gary Glitter?

Oh wait... think that's Paul Gadd.  Oops.

Danny is a friend of a friend. Very nice dude that is not full of himself or up his own ass either.

And holy sh*t he is good.
