Didn't really watch the last Hulk, after that first film I lost interest.   But both Hulk and Banner were used very well here, and I love how his secret is that he's "always angry"--   one of the best little moments in the movie I thought  LOL .

What would Doom be doing in space? Yes he was a minion.

Not sure if Dr Doom would be allowed in it  anyway. FF was a 2oth C Fox film and this one is Marvel studios

I liked The Avengers a lot even though I'm not a fan of any of the heroes separately.  Even a disgrace of a representation of a hero like the guy playing Captain America is used the his best potential. I'd love if DC was able to come up with a Justice League movie of this caliber, but there are two problems: 1, the two big names, Superman and Batman, are being made with a much more serious tone in their respective movies and it will feel weird seeing them in a different light (one can't expect a serious, dark multi-hero movie); 2, besides Batman and Superman, the DC rooster sucks. I mean, there's a lot of excitement to be had in the conflicts between algae and mollusks, but there's not much else to do with Aquaman ....

All depends on attitude;  the Atom, Green Arrow, Martian Manhunter, all could be done equally well as Avengers was if you get good writers.   It's all in the writing.

Plenty of good DC characters they can choose from for the Justice League movie! Hopefully they can get Reynolds back for Green Lantern (I know, the first movie wasn't great, but the last thing they need is to `recast 'n reboot' yet again), and there's a Green Arrow TV series due to start in the next week or so in the States, which might help exposure of that character.

Anyone who reads the rebooted New 52 comics know they've really stepped Aquaman up, so lots of potential there!

Just saw The Machinist. I would say 7.5. Very disturbing. I have heard lots of stuff about Christian Bale being obnoxious to work with, but I can't say anything bad about his dedication to the craft. He completely emaciated himself for the role.

I'm not quite sure whether Liam Neeson gave all that he had to fit the role of one of the doctors who wanted "to take care of" (if not help) a young woman with a speech disorder who lived like a lone wolf in the woods. At least he did well enough. Jodie Foster, however, ... it felt like she was really into her role, pacing back and forth, doing strange yet meaningful gestures, expressing herself in quite vehement ways. Her role was really challenging, and she nailed it. She was so close to having that Oscar.

The story itself is quite engaging and on one note even quite moving. On the other hand, it is not a very original film and it functions (as some cynical SOB's could perceive it) as just a story of a troubled soul who was helped by a couple of caring professional doctors. At least they cared enough to give her a better protection against the possible vices of the outer, real world ... kind of like what you have in E.T.

One of Woody's "different" films. It's done mostly in black & white, 1920's style filming, still pictures, interpolated with fictional interviews in colour from 50 years later or so. The story is funny, like everything by Allen, but I can't say I laughed much. Yet, I was entertained by the various contents concerning "trying to fit in", 1920s U.S.A, a bit of Manhattan like always, some psychology, and more. 
Good, memorable, but not a fave.

Love & Other Drugs 5.5/10

The film has some good performances (Anne Hathaway, especially), but doesn't seem to know what it is; is it a rom-com? Is it a comedy drama? Is it an expose on the American drug industry? Is it a buddy movie? Elements of all of them but not enough to be cohesive. Not a bad movie as such, but not particularly good, either.

Caveat - please note, I only watched this as (a) it was a freebie from work & (b) my wife wanted to see it

Saw "The Hunger Games" just now.....




I must say it was better than I thought it would be. The hunting scenes were graphic and nothing tops that scene where the children are hacking into one another at the beginning of the hunt. Overall it is a powerful film with a stirring message of hope. The film still packs a wallop and worth a look, but definitely not for the very young. I like the dystopian view of society that has sought an answer to the war uprising and signed a treaty to release tributes to fight for honour, and courage. The reality show is an abomination of course but it makes sense in a world gone mad.

It plays on the mind. The main theme of violence to solve violence is provocative. I still question how people can watch killing on a TV show, and they appear sub human almost the way they wine and dine while watching public killings from the comfort of their ivory towers. And it surprised me that a group of teens formed an alliance yet there could only be one victor. Weren't they worried one would turn on the others and wipe them all out? This is a very moving and impactful movie that sears into the brain well after the film is over. It captivates food for thought and is one of the better teen angst movies I have seen, better than the Twilight saga. In any case it is a movie worth returning to on subsequent viewings and leaves more questions than answers.One wonders what will become of a society fuelled by violence though the intentions are to bring peace. The sacrifice of death game players is never going to bring peace because those who live by the sword will die by the sword.

Avengers!





It was full of action and had a fair degree of humour. Unlike many Marvel movies it took a swing at itself especially with the comments of Iron Man so snidely played by wonderful Robert Downey Jr. Thor played out well, always like him, and surprisingly enjoyed Cap America in this one better than in his own film. Scarlet was adorable as the Black Widow, and her scene of escaping henchman at the beginning is a classic piece of kitsch cinema. Again making fun of the escape clause seen so often in action films. Hulk was a real bonus looking mean and green and having the best lines fed to him "Hulk... smash stuff!" The villain in Loki was well executed as he was in Thor, and it had great action sequences and really takes off in the last hour of the film. The 3D was very good for a change and really jumped out in places. The aliens looked okay and I guess overall it would be the best Marvel film. Loved the cool ending scene too which provoked food for thought. SEE IT NOW!

Well I took the kids to this and throughly enjoyed the lunacy of it all including the afro circus and other class scenes such as the human cannonball and the showstopper circus act with psychedelic neon lighting throughout. It is a colourful movie and quite harmless, not provocative or offensive in any way and a nice way to relax on a Saturday afternoon. It is funny in places, with some adult humour thrown in that will go nicely sailing over the head of the very young, and the characters are endearing. All who loved the first 2 movies will get a kick out of revisiting Zebra, Lion, Hippo and Giraffe characters and of course there are some new characters such as a cantankerous tiger, sassy leopard and weird walrus. The villain is a super female spy that is unbeatable and can do ridiculous stunts without batting an eyelid. The car chase is ludicrous and far fetched to the max with the villain acting like she has super powers as she flies literally from building to building and jumps cars. It is all done with flair by CGI animators extraordinaire Dreamworks so you know you are in for a visual feast. The 3D is eye popping and the rainbow streaked visuals are glorious. It has a decent message of hope and trust too. For all ages or the young at heart this is one to enjoy with the family.
