Band Recommendations

I'm sure it'd be a lot of work, but I'm sure every member (or collaborator) could contribute to each band.

What I was thinking is on each band page, there's a small section of 'Recommended Albums/Bands of the same style' where it gives bands with a similar sound.

For example: choosing Camel and on recommended it shows: Asia Minor. I think you get what I'm saying. Doesn't have to be THAT similar, but perhaps like King Crimson and Birds and Buildings. There's strong similarities, but it's not an exact King Crimson sound-alike.

Like I said, it'd be a LOT of work, but it could really help out beginning proggers who would rather look at 'Recommended' instead of delve into album after album, looking for what they like.

There is a thread about Prog Recommendations, but that's one at a time and limited.

You're still having to surf through random bands to look at their biographies, see what they're compared to, but true.

Because if you choose Genesis or Pink Floyd, it doesn't say current bands (or decently current bands) that took from their style.

I suppose the Recommendation Feature would be only useful on the giants of the 70's bands.

never actually tried Last.FM, maybe that's my answer! I'm actually surprised that such a commercialized internet radio would have good recommendations...

I've seen about a thousand signatures with Last.FM, so I suppose I should've went with the fad

Good point, there's only a few exceptions. And these exceptions are usually rated incredibly high, so perhaps this idea is needless.

Way better to find something completely different and unique then a great sound-alike.
