The Debt - film about a mossad mission to capture a Nazi war criminal, really good

Green Lantern - avoided watching it for ages but finally did and I wish I hadn't bothered

Two Lane Blacktop - great road movie, maybe my 7th or 8th time seeing it, Warren Oates is brilliant

In Bruges - not a fan of Colin Farrell but he was good in this, saw it when it came out and watched a dvd last night, really enjoyable film

Watching Hitchcock's original, The Lady Vanishes, tonight--   starting to really enjoy early British cinema, this from 1938, very early.   Will post a review.

I liked Thor (which surprised me); I didn't like Cap (it was pretty silly).

The Lady Vanishes

Despite a tedious first half-hour, Hitchcock's mystery/thriller from 1938 is thoroughly involving when an older woman disappears from a moving train and her young friend tries to find her.  Crisp action and great comic relief from Naughton Wayne & Basil Radford.

El Topo by Jodorowsky.

Intense stuff, probably one of the most transgresive movies I've ever seen. Loaded with symbolism and allusions to christianity and other moral matters.

Just watched the Avengers - it was thoroughly enjoyable and in places quite funny. I haven't seen Captain America and nothing makes me think I've missed anything. Thor is different because of the Norse mythology and Kenneth Branagh did a decent job on that, then I'm biased because Thor was my childhood favourite superhero.
 
My only criticism of most action films of the past 5 years or so, and it's mainly the heavy CGI ones, is the action scenes are too fast to see what's going on - somehow when the ballet of stunt-driven action films was replaced by the wizz-bang-thank-you-mam of computer animation someone forgot about.... timing.

Hodejegerne  (Headhunters)

Ingenious little suspense-drama from Norwegian director Morten Tyldum about a business recruiter (brilliantly played by Aksel Hennie) who moonlights as an art thief by acquiring the personal information on his well-off clients and employees.  Not the typical heist flick, and exudes a dreary, grey Scandinavian elegance.  Worth seeing.

Disjointed if mildly interesting story of Spaniard Juan Pujol Garcia who worked as a double-agent in WWII and ultimately helped the Allies save the world with his complex web of disinformation and deception.

The Avengers

Someone spent a fortune on this thing and got a good writing team who appreciate the characters.   A few loose ends here & there (like why the Hulk suddenly wants to play on a team) and the legion-of-mean-space-robots thing is getting old, but the two and a half hours go by quickly which is a lot more than you can say of most modern epics.   Fun stuff.

Yeah, but I was already surprised that this would be another "having to put up with Loki's crap" story, nevermind his new friends (or were they the same from Thor? Can't remember).

I watched this because I was told it was funny.  I like some American humour but not this dumb stuff. Didn't laugh  once. Didn't  like it at all

but you didn't like Thor,  I did so I bought it (I mean Loki's just about the best they had, otherwise you'd have had morons like Green Goblin and other Marvel Universe types running around in tights).

Was that Dr. Doom at the end after the credits?   And who was the other guy-- looked a lot like Sam Jackson as a monster.

Is it the one with Will Ferrell? I thought it was pretty silly too. However, a few remarkable moments (the flute lead, "Afternoon Delight", and "Sandiago" as "the penis of a walrus") did earn it the second star from me (rating - ** / ****).
