Does anybody here know much about Goblin?
Only, they're playing a one-off show here in Melbourne in a few months time (which is odd to begin with) and I'm not sure if it's worth going to see them. |

Um, what the?!?!? Are you serous?! A Melbourne show?! Where did you find out about this?!
I'm based in Melbourne too, and I remember there was talk years ago of them playing down here and it fell through. I'd be there in a second! Their recent double album `New Goblin - Live in Roma' was very good! As for `is it worth going to see them', I'd say YES! They put out some very good Italian prog/horror soundtrack albums in the 70's, their non-soundtrack album `Roller' is on my top 10 favourite prog albums! |

Thanks H and Tricked Tail for the heads-up in the first place!
After a quick phone call to my `Roller' loving mate, we've now got two tickets to it! Very excited! Never thought I'd get to see Yes, or Porcupine Tree, or even Aussie acts like Unitopia and knockouts Sebastian Hardie live in my lifetime, but ESPECIALLY never imagined I'd be able to see Goblin! Hope it doesn't fall through! Edited by Aussie-Byrd-Brother - September 26 2012 at 05:08 |

I saw them listed in the upcoming events on last.fm a few weeks ago. I check that everyone once in a while, never expecting anything interesting to turn up. http://www.thatsmelbourne.com.au/Whatson/Music/mmw/mmw2012/Program/CONCERTSDJS/Pages/ff76dd2d-b2fb-411a-83fb-1116afb4d8fd.aspx It seems they're mostly coming for the novelty of playing on the Grand Organ in the Town Hall, which, I admit, I had never heard of before. I have Roller around somewhere but never got around to listening to it. I'll have to find it and give it a listen. |

TrickedTail, if I saw the listing for Goblin I would have fallen off my seat! You could probably tell from my initial response to your post that I was pretty shell-shocked then, too!
Anyway, I saw the support act for the Goblin show The Night Terrors when they supported Hawkwind last year in Melbourne, and they were also very impressive, lots of eerie theremin and moody atmospheres. Just another reason to get to the show, and they'll compliment Goblin well. By the way, tickets are $40, which is unbelievable value! Edited by Aussie-Byrd-Brother - September 26 2012 at 05:22 |

Fantastic! I only really got into prog early last year, so I missed Porcupine Tree, and my dad who was a massive prog fan himself wasn't keeping abreast of modern prog bands after he lost interest in the late 70s. Did see Yes though, one of the greatest nights of my life. |

Tricked, I assume you mean the recent Yes show with the singer from Glass Hammer from earlier this year (March/April, if I recall)? It was a great show, and I got to meet great Archives regulars like AtomicCrimsonRush (Scott) at that concert, so all good!
As for Porcupine Tree, they seem to have a much higher profile in Australia these days , so no doubt you'll get another chance to see them To see an Italian prog legend like Goblin will be fantastic! |

Progbethyname, I think those Goblin albums will be endlessly re-released every few years! They have the fanbase of both the prog scene, as well as horror movie fanatics who like their soundtrack work. For some reason, I've enjoyed `Roller' way more than their classic soundtrack albums such as Suspiria and Profondo Rosso, even though they are still damn good!
As for PFM, I think there'll be other people bigger experts on this Italian thread, and the Archives in general, who feel more strongly about PFM than I do. I mentioned recently that I find it very frustrating with the way that band's early albums are full of Italian versions/English versions, different tracklistings, new tracks replaced with tracks from previous albums, etc. It's really held me back from enjoying that group more, sadly! |

Thank you so much for your input. You make some very good points about P.F.M though.. ..not bad for a non expert lol. I think if I were a big fan of the band (P.F.M) and I heard reworkings like english recordings and such I'd be pissed!! Takes away from the initial integrity set out by the artist. Thanks for your help and F.Y.I I LOVE SUSPIRIA too! Electronic progressive masterpiece |

Progbethyname, I think I'd find it a little easier if their seperate English and Italian albums each had the same tracklistings! I think the English version of `The World Became The World' and it's Italian counterpart `L'Isola...' have some same tracks, one track from an earlier album, a reworked track, etc! Wish it was simply the SAME album with different vocals! The first few albums have a similar situation, if I recall?
Honestly, the real issue here is my hang-ups and getting frustrated about those wonderful albums! That band is so dear and special to so many progressive fans, and my minor grumbles mean absolutely nothing! |

Hi guys,
have you listened to "Carta Straccia"? It's a 1977 album by Formula Tre and Il Volo's frontman Alberto Radius. Recently reissued on cd by the omnipresents BTF. Musically is an evolution of IL VOLO sound (with wonderful italian lyrics). a) Stai con Me, Sto con Te (You Stay with Me, I Stay with You): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdUZTrVQLzM&feature=related b) Nel Ghetto (a hit in '77): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suqnxX-muns c) Ricette (Recipes): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDIjFF-IsqA d) Celebrai: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hF-B28TRdek&playnext=1&list=PL19882EDD729C4E00&feature=results_video Edited by Andrea Cortese - September 27 2012 at 16:45 |
