2011 was such a good year for RPI that I still think 2012 is also. Thank you for this list. So are my thougts about
these releases:
 
Ornithos, (BdM members reforming their pre BdM band, great jazzy jamming prog, one of the best this year) 
Il Bacio Della Medusa, (rellay good, just a bit short and slightly not as good as their second)
Stefano Testa, (nice, but too nice for me so I didn't get this one)
L'Estate San Martino, (pure beauty with enough edge to keep from geting boring, recommended)
Hostsonaten, (really good concept album, would like it more if they sang in Italian)
Maurizio di Tollo, (good sym. prog, not among the best but can't go wrong here)
Mangala VAllis, (haven't heard this one, how is the new singer? (would luv Bernardo to be with them still) 
Vieux Carre, (never even heard about them)
Syndone, (not my style so I didn't get this)
Court, (only have their debut from '93 which really strange, so I will not get this one)
L'Ombra della sera, (nice album, if you like Morte Macabre you won't go wrong here)
Ianva, (one of my favourite bands with another great album (but still get their second one first)
Profusion, (heard afew samples of this one and couldn't get into it)
Daal, (powerfull dark retro with some electronics, like it, but difficult to hear the full album in a row)
Barock, (really liked their first, don't like that they sing English now and they moved too far away from RPI IMHO)
Claudio Milano, (haven't heard)
Mogodor, (too neo for me)
Luca Sherani, (took me by surprice, really elegant album in a relaxed but not boring style)
Stereokimono, (still have to get this one, loved the track from Prog Exhibithion II, good to see they are still there)
Christiano Roversi, (haven't heard)
Gatto Marte, (chamber prog lite, might buy this...)
Il Maniscalco Modestro, (never heard but I think this more in a punk avant style )
Mudway (don't know)
 
I think Macroscream are from march 2012, allthough listed as 2011 here. Good music but terrible recording and production.

Macroscream's album was recorded between April-November 2011. According to the band's website it was released during December 2011:

Anybody have any love for the `Il Cerchio D'Oro' album `Il Viaggio di Colombo' from a few years back? Just listening to it at work right now, and everytime I hear it I find it such a top-quality Italian prog album. Not a total classic or anything, but truly `everything in the right place'!

Did I imagine reading on the Archives forum a while back - and probably in this thread - that the band has a new album to come out later this year?

A nice album really, maybe a little too wise. I feel the same feeling for the first Reale Accademia Di Musica.

Don't know if it was posted here but there will be a new one. It's listed by Blackwidow under "Future Plans".
But sadly there is no time shedule. Sometimes these albums come out pretty fast, sometimes they are
on this list for years.

H, you are spot on! I was looking at the Black Widow page about a week ago, so that's where I too would have read it, thanks!

Hey ABB, Try the first RADM and maybe you'll understand my point of view on Il Cerchio D'Oro. I can't explain why, but these two albums (very different) sound very close to me.

I think CHRISTINA SCABBIA of LACUNA COIL needs to hook up with a progressive metal band. She has that great ITALIAN Thunder in her voice. What a talent. Too bad she is with just a basic metal band.

Regarding the obvious insane mentality of one that thinks music has to be in English, I mock these folks until my dying breath! I actually prefer Italians singing in their own language. It's much too beautiful to be left out of the equation.

Speaking of RPI, do you know Procession? I think you would adore their two albums from the early 70s, specifically the second one Fiaba.

Hey Dave, welcome to THIS party lol!

When I read that review (I should go dig the mag out and write exactly what it said), I remember re-reading it over and over thinking `I am misinterpreting it?!' and so on, and then ringing my buddy from the Archives in Queensland Tom Ozric and ranting `Can you believe what this d**khead said about Italian prog?!?!' etc etc

I've also got another friend who hasn't really heard any Italian prog yet, and I was telling him that there's a number of prog fans who think a lot of the Italian stuff is in a league of it's own, full of endless high-quality albums - I rattled off my favourites like the Corte Dei Miracoli, Triade, Museo Rosenbach, Alphataurus, L'uouvo di Colombo, etc.

I don't know Procession, so I'll have to look into them!

I guess it's a matter of taste, as everything is. I have come to love so many languages that I don't understand, but that's the point, it doesn't have to be like that. The vocals are just as much an instrument as the pianos are. I also love Portuguese, French and Spanish. Even stuff like Tenhi makes Finnish sound incredible moving and graceful.

Funny you mention that about vocals! I had immense trouble getting into `Tago Mago' by Can, because for the first few months I had it, I kept on trying to figure out what that Japanese singing was saying! "Is it English, is it Japanese?! Is a combination of both?! Is it just inane drug-added rambling?!" and so on (turns out it was probably a winning combination of all of the above! ).

But I eventually tuned out from the vocals and paid attention to the band behind it, and quite quickly the album really fell into place! I noticed how the vocals really grooved with the music, so what he was actually saying wasn't so important anymore.

I agree 100% with you that it's better on the Italian albums when the band sings in their native language, though.

I think I had a similar thing happen with Can as well...

I visited a record shop on Saturday, and for the second time in a row, I get all winded up seeing PFM L'Isola and then regrettably seeing The world became the world... aaaahhhhhhhh snap! Two times I've been fooled with that same infernal thing!

Oh, I know what you mean! I really dislike some of the English vocals on `The World Became The World' - in some of the harder parts the singer sounds like he's constipated!

I find it very frustrating with the way that band's early albums are full of Italian versions/English versions, different tracklistings, new tracks replaced with tracks from previous albums, etc. It's really held me back from enjoying that group more, sadly.
