i really like Banks of Eden. it's really an album for the fans and the sound is so warm. i just like the feeling of the entire album. that's the way i am with my favorite bands. it's not necessarily the songs (that's a bonus) but the sound of each instrument etc.
i've only heard Sum a few times. I don't own it. I need to get it soon. I really like it...especially that first track intro:)

I'm not sure if Numbers is up there with those 4 fantastic tracks - or The Truth Will Set You Free for that matter, but it sure is excellent ![]()

Just out of curiosity:
Are we enjoying Banks Of Eden more or less these days? I know I don't have to remind you guys(at this point in time) to make sure we get enough Chicken Farmer Song in our diet??? ![]() PLUS, dig this: Guess what the Queen of England(Amazon.co.uk) just sent me? I took these pictures today... You guys need to run out right NOW and get a 5.1 system going, you will not regret it. And... each ELP CD set only costs around 16 dollars! ![]() |

Certainly there are albums I haven't listened to in many years. (My one Kenny G release, for example!!) But I imagine I've heard most of my collection at least once in the last few years. Many a lot more than once! Even the one's I haven't listened to in years, however, I listened to more often when I first got them. Only have 2 TFK albums, though...! I listened to FGtR maybe a month ago and surprised myself by quite enjoying it! ![]() Edited by infocat - September 21 2012 at 22:35 |

![]() ![]() i hit about 500 CDs in the early 00s and since have been purging. if i only like one or two songs and it doesn't have sentimental value, then i put it on the itunes and sell it on ebay. i've had a few regrets, but usually my gut is right. [/QUOTE]I have only two Zappa albums. Even if I feel I want to get more it's kind of hard to decide what! |

I haven't been listening to TFK much lately, but I've been going through related bands like Karmakanic, The Tangent, 3rd World Electric, and been particularly listening to a lot of jazz too. Now recently Neal Morse has been getting heavy rotation, even though I don't think his new album is anywhere near his best. According to my last.fm Banks of Eden has gotten more spins than a couple other TFK albums I've picked up in the last year, so that tells you something.

So, I am just back from seeing The Flower Kings in Leamington in good old England!! Furthermore, I met up with Roj and his missus. Yet again I was blown away by the brilliance of these fabulous musicians. It was just FANTASTIC!!! Can't wait to see them again in London on Monday!! ![]() Edited by Nov - September 22 2012 at 19:34 |

Honestly, the Flower Kings are one of the greatest bands I've ever heard in my young life, and it's a shame that some people put them down because they are INSPIRED by the prog of the '70s. I really like the sound of Banks of Eden; I think it definitely proves the haters wrong. The truth in the Flower Kings' music is that it grows on you, and soon you realize that there is so much originality behind all that '70s inspiration. The guys have worked really hard on double albums like Stardust We Are, Flower Power, and (my personal favorite) Unfold the Future, and the music includes much more substance than what audiences will initially feel as the "retro" vibe. The Flower Kings are a huge inspiration to ME, and I'd say that any band that ultimately impresses me (despite other people's criticism) must be of musical justice and originality. The Kings gave me truth, and it set me free!!

Hey Prog Drummer Tony, great to hear from you and welcome to the forum. As you can see, you're not alone in your love for the Flower Kings.
Unfold is one of their best albums, it's a top three for me, but the double album that you didn't mention is my favorite. For me, Paradox Hotel is their greatest achievement to date. Their epic symphonic and jazzier albums are excellent, but for me the rock vibe to their music on Paradox is about as good as it gets. Welcome to the club, |

fantastic Gig - started with numbers - played three off BOE - first 2nd and last tracks.....
otther memorable moments - Stardust we are section.....Guitar solo in - "The truth will set you free"
Other tracks - I am a clown in the eyes of the world....
Only gripe - encore of "paradox Hotel" - could have picked a lot of better tracks than that....
Sound - bit heavy on the drums / bass for my linking....but ok on the whole.

I was at the Leamington Spa gig on saturday and what a fantastic night that was.
Firstly it was great to meet Nov ![]() ![]() The band were superb. Great sound balance and a killer setlist, though like Rob describes for Holmfirth, we also got Paradox Hotel as the encore, a great song but I Am The Sun would've been better. The full setlist was something like:- Numbers For The Love of Gold Babylon What If God Is Alone Stardust We Are (Part 3) Last Minute On Earth Eyes of the World The Truth Will Set You Free Rising The Imperial Paradox Hotel There was also a Jonas/Felix jazzy jam and a brilliant Tomas keyboard solo (great if you like electronic music like me, that is ![]() Numbers was amazing, it was a wonderful version of the gorgeous Babylon and TTWSYF was one I was not expecting, truly fabulous. My highlight though was the Last Min/Eyes combo, played pretty much as on their recent DVD. I assure you lava is not as hot. The icing on the cake was meeting the band afterwards and what a thoroughly great bunch of guys they are, genuinely appreciative of us, the fans, even more than we are of them. Even my other half, who is not much of a TFK fan, was bowled over by their freindliness. Now if only I was a little more tecno savvy and could put some of those piccies on here ![]() One gripe, NO XL T-SHIRTS!! What ![]() Afterwards the pub round the corner was knocking out Ruddles Best at £1.89 a pint and Strongbow for the missus at £1.99 a pint. £3.88 a round, very useful for a post-gig beverage or 3 ![]() Nov, you're very lucky, 2 TFK gigs in 3 days. Enjoy tonight!

Needless to say, even switching out M&M for The Truth (which I would definitely do), Numbers wouldn't be in my top 5 epics (it doesn't beat out Love Is The Only Answer or Devil's Playground for me.........but does beat out M&M, and both epics on A&E). I will eventually pull out Banks of Eden again, give it more tries, but at this point I'm pretty tired of hearing it. Which is something that hasn't happened to me since A&E. Of course, as I said before I would still love to hear the material live, as I'm sure (like A&E) I would appreciate it more in that format. Whoever said Banks was an album for the fans obviously wasn't considering this fan. In any case, it IS a good album, though only ranks above A&E for me.
