Rather recently I think. It is being released with an issue of Classic Rock: Deep Purple, which either just came out, or is coming out this month.

Lenny Bruce was an American comedian from the 60's (I think) who opened the doors for swearing and other such things for comedians. I believe that he may have had legal troubles because of some of the things that he would say in his routine. I suspect it is probably quite tame compared to the things people say today, but at the time it was quite groundbreaking. |

Yeah, that pretty much covers it. He wasn't exactly a potty mouth, but he did talk about topics that were taboo for standup comics, like religion and race relations. But his view was also that "If you do it, you should be able to say it" with respect to "bad words". I think most of his early arrests were because the Irish Catholic cops didn't like his less than reverent attitude towards the Pope, and the bad words were more of a pretext for hauling him in. It soon turned into what amounted to essentially a conspiracy to shut him up, as his arrests became more frequent. He used to perform with his overcoat on, just in case he got hauled away again and didn't want to be separated from his coat.
Eventually he was banned from performing in almost all the major nightclubs, and he soon died penniless and a broken man, as they say, bankrupted from his efforts to defend himself. Edited by HolyMoly - September 14 2012 at 14:58 |

Mentioned in the 1974 song "Broadway Melody of 1974" by Genesis off of The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway: "...Lenny Bruce declares a truce and plays his other hand."

He was no rabble rouser, though. He was an extremely humble and articulate man, who just placed honesty above all else. This is the story (*swelling music*) of Lenny Bruce (*credits roll*)

I don't know that I have ever heard anything that he did. I am aware of him, but that is really about it. I know that they made a movie about his life, but I don't think that I ever saw it.

Whoops - mine is like the polar opposite of that. But I like all the albums. They're my favourite band my quite a distance.
1. Frances The Mute - The perfect album. (Add the title track at the start and it makes it even better) 2. The Bedlam In Goliath - Crazy, but crazy good. It's like being punched in the face with awesome for 75min 3. Octahedron - Has 'Luciforms' in it which might be the best song ever. Half the songs are classics half are simply good. 4. Noctourniquet - Took bloody ages to grow on me. Some amazing stuff but not got the overall wow factor. 5. Amputechture - Tetragrammaton has some awful bits, Meccamputechture is too long. Last track might as well not be there. Rest of the tracks are great 6. Deloused In The Comatorium - Starts off great but Eriatarka is grating as is The Apparatus... Televators is awesome. Too much emphasis on hooks that I just don't like. Edited by JS19 - September 14 2012 at 16:19 |

O_O! Not sure what to comment on first :O! Calling some of Octahedron classics and then saying Noctourniquet had no wow factor is interesting. |

I'm walking a line-i'm thining about empty motion
I'm walking a line-just barely enough to be living Get outa the way-no time to begin This isn't the time-so nothing was done Not talking about-not many at all I'm turning around-no trouble at all You notice there's nothing around you, around you I'm walking a line-divide and dissolve. |
