I read about that the other day. Essentially they'll be trading one cost (healthcare) for another (police). |

Police, Cost Guard, Prisons, Courts, and loss of tax revenue. Who knows what would cost more, but the one option doesn't have people being harassed and thrown in jail and the violence of a black market.

Idiotic country never really deserved a politician like that. A politician that is so unlike one. |

We live in an age where people see virtue in transforming your principles because of the feelings of others. Compromise has superseded the very notion of having principles. |

Notes from the disgusting convention that was:
- "Mitt Romney’s mean spirited National Convention, run by a team who has refined exclusion and pettiness to an art, will now rely more than ever on the socialism and failed economy of Barack Obama to get their man elected. The door of their campaign is shut for anyone else to come in. At the RNC there was no generosity in victory, no forgiveness, no open arms, no calls for unity. Only scowls. It is payback time. To an unlikely combination of evangelicals, homosexuals and other targeted groups, the pain of the Romney’s will soon be unleashed upon them." - Doug Wead

^I don't agree with the "targeted groups" part. That statement is as full of idiocy as many other ones either by those on the left or the right. Yes, libertarians can also say idiotic things. I didn't see hate in the RNC. Lots of bad things, yes, maybe, but I didn't see "targetting". Now, of course I don't know who Doug Wade is. Maybe he's not even a libertarian. I haven't seen the video. I'm just commenting on the quote.

I don't know who Doug Wade is, either. Doug Wead, however, is a presidential historian and one of the few campaign insiders I trust to give an accurate take on what is happening. If you followed Ron Paul's campaign, at all, I'm surprised you didn't see him (did quite a few interviews). |

Interesting, he says its a tragedy that someone compromises principles
to get elected.....while admitting that "someone has to do it, or
we're sunk" as a nation.....someone has to practice "the art of politics." Someone has to learn how to "couch" language and play the game "to get more votes". And that the movement has people in it more interested in making money/being provocative when they should be concerned with "winning." Tells me he balances realism as opposed to just purism.
The liberty movement does have energy and it will be really interesting to see if they successfully learn these lessons and change the Repub party slowly over time. Or if they are content to be another Green Party. The demos are in their favor. Some of the more resistant voices in the party are getting old and will die off. If the Liberts keep their head and don't let their anger/bitterness at this year's result sour them, the future is bright. Jeez I hope so, because there needs to be some balance in the future against the "progressive" movement. Thanks for posting. Edited by Finnforest - September 01 2012 at 15:30 |

He's clearly not a Republican. This was his last hurrah, and he should just declare himself a Libertarian. The Republican party is now an odious and fully neo-con party. No respectable person should associate with them. Any reason to associate with them is to gain exposure, not because they have any particularly good ideas unique to them. Anything they do good, libertarians do better. TL:DR the Republican party is a sh*tstain and an embarrassment to human existence.

Not even almost nearly as embarrassing and horrible as the Republicans. Still misguided and overreaching, but not as disastrously stupid. Disagree if you like.

Catching up on RedEye while riding the stationary bike today and at about 27:25 we get some huge prog rock references. Start out at like 26:50 if you want background knowledge on what the story is about:
The only Libertarian news show on television? Hence why it's on at 2 in the morning. EDIT: He does botch a Yes reference, they have no one-song double album. Edited by The Truth - September 02 2012 at 14:24 |

True but, the sad thing is while I know most of you think it the opposite the GOP really is the saddest collection of humans there are. I know the Dems are bad big government people but I still dont know why Reps are viewed as "better" or "less so" They are IMO even bigger government than the Dems. And anything they say about "social" stuff honestly makes me ashamed at times. |
