Why are you so argumentative? Obviously you have never served in any military. I'm done.

By argumentative do you mean that I have a different opinion than you and that I like to bring up differences given that this is a forum meant for discussion?
I have not served in the military, and I intend to never do so. I don't see how that invalidates my opinion. Edited by Equality 7-2521 - August 31 2012 at 14:30 |

These shootings in the US only make page 12 or 16 in my local paper The Montréal Gazette while if there is a shooting in Canada it makes front page. Unfortunately it has become somewhat of a regular occurence south of the border. An AK 47? That's no BB gun.I live two blocks away from where a shooting occurred at Dawson College in Sept. 2006. Everyone was evacuated for I think well past Greene Ave.until very late in the night because they thought there was more than one shooter. One student was killed and sevral others wounded . The cops managed to kill the lone gunman who was armed to the teeth.

As far as the newspaper goes, it happened at like 4am last night, which is too late for it to be published in the papers today. Tomorrow, if it's not front page news, I'll be angry.

Glad you are alright. I saw that story and immediately thought of you and JJ. Of course, I had no idea how close that shooting was to you, I just saw that it was in New Jersey. I figure odds are against it being someone that I "know" but the thought still crept into my mind.

He will. When Andy McNab ( real name Steve Mitchel ) wrote Bravo Two Zero he was an instant millionaire. He wrote a few mare ``factual '' accounts about his experiences with 22 SAS. Most of what he wrote in Bravo Two Zero was debunked in a book by another guy who served in '' The Regiment ''. For example the escape in the NY taxi was defacto an old Toyota pick -up. So when something like the Seal Team 6 mission or any special forces mission is documented there is bound to be ambiguities. McNab or Mitchel has gone on to write novels about special forces operations and has mad a fortune. When I was in the military I was on a survival course where one of the instructors was Australian SAS. These guys are a breed apart believe me. I just don't understand why some of them have to tell the world about classified missions. Those who have served in the military know everything operates through what is known as chain of command and need-to-know. It is a very unfair profession and can be very frustrating at times when you don't know why the f**k you're doing something.
I think the most accurate account of special operations mission was 90 secohds at Entebbe by journalist William Stephenson. After the raid the Israelis more or less revealed all the details in just days after it's success.. BTW if the book does come out I'll go out and buy a copy just out of curiosity. I'm not prepared to believe everything the guy say at any rate. Edited by Vibrationbaby - August 31 2012 at 15:36 |

This is the whole reason we have freedom of speech and freedom of the press to begin with, so the government can't monopolize the flow of information and shut down dissenting opinions. It should be very interesting to see what the guy has to say. |

Nice how everyone's assuming this SEAL is legitimate and whatever gets published will be in anyway the truth.

I never said anything about whether he's telling the truth, I said it be interesting to see what he has to say. Obviously I would take anything in the book with a huge grain of salt. He well be lying for money and fame, but I'm still glad we live in a country where the government can't arrest him for writing a book. |

Well, duh. The point is everyone jumps to the conclusion that suits them best. Of course the odds are that this guy is genuine, and either way I think he's probably a dead man walking now that Al Qaeda knows who he is. I suspect that the book will be vetted before publication whether anyone admits that publically or not. |

I can already see the front page: "A prog-rock fan talked about killing his coworkers on a public forum". |

The world isn't ready for unhyphenated 'co-worker' just yet, we've need to wait until all the cows are extinct.
