What is up??? You gotta take a drive down 95 and check out my new 5.1 home theatre! But bring down some good Jersey Pizza and Canolis, ok???
I am still waiting for my 5.1 DVD-Audio ELP discs of ELP & Tarkus to arrive so I can blast that until I loose my hearing!
![]() ![]() ![]() I got my Banks Of Eden Deluxe LP record and CD. The record is junk but I got it for old time's sake. Its sitting on my fireplace mantle right next to my autographed Sonny Jurgensen helmet.
![]() How did you make out with your Flower King listening marathon? Can I suggest an ELP marathon next???

I'm getting a little burned out on TFK right now. I think I'll take a couple of weeks off from them. I'm really getting back into White Willow and I've been getting into some Italian prog as well. Sorry guys see you in a month!

Dude, no need to go away, we're more like a circle of friends that sometimes talk about The Flower Kings and sometimes go off on a tangent. Feel free to stick and chat, even if you're not actively listening to the Flower Kings. Seriously, I go through phases on a regular basis but always check here for the social bit. You're welcome to be one of us now if you so choose. Tom

What Roland said above, but also, you seemed to have dived head first into the band and listened to like 4 albums without becoming familiar with each one at a time. That'll happen with any band and you'll get burnt out. But yea, stick around, you might get into other music besides TFK just by hanging out here, not to mention we're good company. Also, 2/3 of the time I get the itch to listen to TFK, it's because I read some stuff on this thread. |

I'm going to stick around. I've just suddenly been bitten by the classical bug again, which didn't take long as I listened to classical music, and nothing but, for three years. I'm going to continue to listen to prog rock though just like I'll continue to listen to jazz. These are my favorite genres of music. I guess what I meant by my post is that I'm going to take a break from TFK. To be honest, they're a cool band and I've enjoyed their music, but I should have not dived into them so quickly as darkshade suggests. I'll just have to cool it for awhile, but right now I'm really enjoy White Willow, PFM, and Banco del Mutuo Soccorso. Of course I love the classics like Genesis, Pink Floyd, ELP, so this will never change. I guess I just took on more than I could handle, which is something I'm notorious for doing. The people at the classical forum I frequent make jokes to me about this all the time and I suppose it's well deserved as this is a serious flaw I have. I'm going to try to ease off my buying new music as well. I might buy two or three CDs a month now. This is something that I'm going to have to get better at doing. Taking my time with music equals more enjoyment and enrichment.

![]() Blimey, I hope you don't treat your partner(s) like this ![]() A few weeks ago you hated TFK and especially Rone Stolt's guitar playing. Then you announce that you suddenly love them and, despite being warned of the consequences, buy every album they ever released. Now, having played about half of these albums (daunting for any new listener) you are suddenly "burnt out on TFK" ![]() You are some kind of compulsive character aren't you? ![]() Slow down for crying out loud!! ![]() ![]() |

^ Aye I think it took me about two years to collect all the FK's CD's back catalogue....When you are exploring for a new band - buying the best CD...is that really the best strategy - I know it's all objective - but buying the middle rated - CD to listen.....hmmm I can see a flaw in any buying strategy......
I still have only 1 spinned about 20 of my last 30 purchases......and evwen BoE didn't grab me and pull me in at about the fifth listening..i struggle sometimes - coz I think - I haven't heard x for ages - so I play that rather than a re-spin of a CD that flat-lined on "anticipation of the ONE***" session....
***Anticipation of the ONE...the CD that makes me have a mind blowing aural-orgasm......

Well, I dived into the Flower Kings full on when I discovered them in 1999. Bought all their albums (5 at the time, if you include The Flower King album) within a month. Loved every one, listened to at least one just about every day for a couple of years. It took me about 3 or 4 years to get burned out on them.........I guess sometime after Unfold was released. Since then I usually binge on them in the summer, and then don't listen to them at all (or hardly at all) the rest of the year.
My reaction to Banks currently though, makes me think that I should space out my FK listening more. |

Dennis, welcome back! About the only thing I agree with in the first part of your post is that All Of The Above is the best TA song of them all. The rest........well, there is no accounting for taste, right ? ![]() ![]() I will say this.........whenever I see a post of yours, I have a sudden uncontrollable urge to listen to The Chicken Farmer song.......... ![]() ![]() |

I'm definitely going to slow down. There's no question about it. I did dislike the TFK and Roine Stolt, but when I posted this I seriously didn't like them, but suddenly I heard a clip of Garden of Dreams (one of Roine's solos) and I felt I misjudged them too quickly. This is when I also pulled out my copy of Retropolis and decided to give a few spins. I'm an emotional listener and I respond to what I'm hearing at that given time. I either like it or I don't, but I realize that not everything can be so white and black. There are some recordings that just take time to appreciate and this is what I'm going to do with TFK now.

Ehhhh up - The warning signs are there - (They creep up on you like a ninja in the dark)...One minute you're telling everybody just tracks like GOD, The Whirlwind and TFTO are prime examples of old aged musoes, drunk in their own virtuosity, playing out cliched and tedious dirge...sod all that - you'll be shaving your head, donning a skin tight pair of turned up jeans with 15 hole docks, a tight t-shirt - Braces and a green bomber jacket..then you'll be telling everybody just how FRESH the punk/new wave band you just seen, they may have been completely talentless, vile and noisey - but they were down with the kids - wiping the prog-rock dinosaurs from the face of the earth - for the good of mankind. You'll be poggoing round - grotching greenies onto your mates noggins - Bloody hell it's 1976 again folks.....

To be fair - GOD is a good 20 minutes too short for me...loads of room for more of the instrumental about 4 mins in to be extended and reprised just before another five minute Stolte Guitar ripper....
