Like I am listening to The Enablers Album Blown realms and stalled explosions on bandcamp right now and it's frustrating me because the music is so beautiful but the vocals are lazy and anti-Rhythmic and A-melodic. I keep picturing vocals that I could put over this beautiful music that would sound so much f**king better. Like this guys approach to every song is the same. Just reciting poetry over beautiful music, without any concern for how it fits in it seems. I don't want to be listening to bands with "wow I can sing something beautiful over this, what the f**k is this guy doing?" on my mind the whole time.

Efterklang reminds me of an upbeat prog band for some reason. Definitely a time and place for this kind of music. It's good.

I'm not sure about the "Vocal Afterthought" criticism, it certainly isn't the case. The poetry is the main focal point imo and really locks in with the beautifully melancholic scene they make. Guess they just aren't for you.

^ That album or any of Swans 90's material has sort of droning vocals combined with precursor Post-Rock and eclectic bag of other genres. Highly recommended. Early Swans material is more No Wave, Post Punkish kind of deal; very different in contrast to the latter days.

Let my make myself clear, I like the instrumentation a lot. I just think the spoken word execution is bland and sounds exactly the same on every track. But I respect your opinion as well.

Edit:

You know it might just be that I am not in the mood at this particular time for spoken word, so my opinion might be based on my current modus operandi. I might be going through a melodic vocal phase again, which I often do as an aspiring musical expressionist myself.

I have heard some of the swans darker output and must say that there is definitely a time and place for it. I am not sure where that time and place is but it might not be far from the nearest psyche clinic. I shall have to give this particular album a listen. One of the things I am searching for is melodics in my post rock. From what I recall Swans were not very melodic. I see certain bands, such as A perfect circle and Deftones as having some qualities of post rock but maintaining them within the setting that it is in (primarily hard rock). The atmosphere, the experimentation and the melodic approach to the music and the vocal melody. Please reference the first post I made on this thread for more.

Another great band I discovered the other day On CD baby. Margareds. They are more a cross between trip hop and post rock, but still worth a listen for adventurous hearts.

Hmm. How are you embedding them on here?

The Insert Movie Button allows you to just enter the URL for the desired video.
I also believe that the tags work - correct me if i'm wrong.

Hope this helps.

And of course for some reason embedding is NOT working. So here is the manual link.
