OK, firstly, I know nothing about "music theory" or whatever it is that one needs to know when one plays music. I don't play any instruments. Basically, I am musically dumb. I just know what I like.
That being said, I find "time signatures" to be fascinating, if inscrutable. I was watching some videos from Axe Of Creation, and while he seems to do a very good job explaining it, I'm still fairly certain I don't "get it". A song that seems to me to have some perhaps simple but unusual time signatures in it is Anubis All That Is. I'd love for someone to listen to it, specifically from 1:17 - 5:14 (and repeated later in the song) and tell me what the time signature(s) is/are. I think there are at least two alternating. The first one is the guitar riff (I think the bass is in the same sig). Then from 1:59 - 2:54 comes an awesome bass line, with supporting guitar. Then the same set is repeated again. In the "lead bass" portion I hear a lot of "1-2-3", with an occasional "1-2-3-4". But I'm not sure the "1-2-3-4" comes in after a consistent number of "1-2-3"s. And of course I have no idea what time signature it is. Don't ask me about the drums! Anyhow, it's a fascinating and beautiful song. You should give it a listen! |

But on to the point, I've listened from 1:17 to 5:00 and sorry to disappoint you but it's all 4/4. Interesting guitar and bass parts, but the meter is steady 4/4 throughout.

Indeed it's 4/4 all the way. You can play an infinity of different rythms in a time sig, don't confuse the changes in rythm with changes in time signature.

Time for you to get a watch.
I play for fun, don't know nuthin' about no time signatures though. I'm an improviser so it would be interesting to find out what time signatures I am doing since I draw my inspiration mostly from progressive rock. Actually, I have a means of doing that. I can record to MIDI and then play it back in Cakewalk... |
