I respect the appreciation this reviewer shows for an under-appreciated album, but it would be nice if the review actually contained information about the music instead of just rebuttals to the claims of other reviewers.

What are our policy regarding reprints of reviews from other sites? I am on my phone now so sadly no links, but disregarding the quality of them, I counted 16 reviews from the reviewer named kluseba - all of them posted within a small timeframe.

I used quite a bit of my time writing one for Haxan by Art Zoyd yesterday, and it is kind of irritating to have it kicked off the front-page by a tidal wave of prepared writings that originated from another site. Hell I could do the same thing, just not on a metal site, because I happen to prefer PA for all the groupies and free dope, and nowadays metal is something I obtain from food.

My bad, it's now 22 reviews

EDIT: 25 which means half the extended front-page.

31..... Allright I'm gonna stop now, but this is perhaps a tad excessive.

I'm pretty sure PA doesn't have a policy about reprinting reviews, as long as they're the author's own work.  Maybe a PM asking him to spread his reviews out in order to make room for others' would be helpful, but as far as I can see he's not breaking any rules.

Yeah, I don't think it's obvious to the casual contributor that it's a "no-no" to flood the site with too many reviews at a time.  I'm sure it wasn't done to annoy anyone.  I don't think I had even noticed that new reviews get posted on the front page until I'd submitted at least ten, and had spent a lot of time on the forum.  I think early on I saved up a few reviews and posted them all in quick succession, never suspecting it might have seemed annoying to anyone.

No-one is ever gonna complain about a flood of  informative, considered and sincere reviews dominating the front page are they? As long as the reviews are the author's own work we don't have any issues with reviews from other sites appearing on PA and vice versa. By way of contrast, reviews that tell you nothing about the music, assume prior knowledge of Prog, contain no historical context about the prevalent musical climate and merely serve to propel the author up some risible league table of prolificness are a different matter entirely and have been debated ad nauseam on this site previously. You will never annoy people with a surfeit of quality work.

Could anyone give some feedback on my reviews? Looking to improve, becoming a little strained with what I consider to be my fairly dry writing style- just not sure how to inject any personality into it.

Use adjectives like "corpulent" and "miasmatic" and "lugubrious" and nouns like "ululation" and "euphony." That should do the trick.

Is it bad that I know what all of those terms mean?

There's no hope for me is there.

You are one of hte first reviewers that I've read because of the Senmuth thing (I'm still rushing behind his releases). I don't see anything bad in them. Everybody has its own style.
I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

I discovered lots of new things from this LE ORME's "Felona e Sorona" review: http://www.progarchives.com/Review.asp?id=854027.

Brilliant sentence:
" the vocalist's voice is quite plain, average and indistinguishable from the voice of every other Italian singer."

And this one really opened my eyes:
"The Italian prog scene never struck me as being quite special and even though it has some very powerful and notable exceptions, such as Premiata Forneria Marconi, Quella Vecchia Locanda, Locanda delle Fate, among others, most of the scene has nothing interesting to present at all."

Yeah, I read that one too, and my guess is that Caio, at times, enjoys being a tad excessive to generate a bit of controversy. Provocative is perhaps a better word for itLOL Anyway, it's his opinion, and while I definitely don't share it, I think he's allowed to have it.
