Zao for sure. Especially for the first two albums -- though I like all of Zao's albums. It was Osiris that got me into Zao, but I especially came to love the début - Z=7L (a considerably underrated at PA album for my tastes). Infernal Machine didn't do so much for me -- not that I've spun it much. I liked Soleil d'Ork more.
it was hearing this that initially got me to really fall for Zao:
And the first track off my particular favourite Zao album:

Love Zao. All their 70's albums are great (even the zeuhlless Typareth). Why are they so overlooked? And why do I keep forgetting how magnificent they are myself?
Jannik Top solo albums should be no match for them (but I didn't think Dün and Shub Niggurath would be out in the first rounds either).

Zao, and those were poor choices for examples. Their first album Z=7L is a classic Zeuhl album. After that they gradually went pure instrumental fusion. Top did his best work with Magma; his song "De Futura" was done better by Magma although his version is great too.

Agreed. But I hear lots of Zeuhl in their fusion except in Typareth. Here's Zao in a "classic" Zeuhl mode.

^ Yeah..I was about to say that I only have Shekina and while I haven't listened to it for years I never understood why they are called Zehul, there's nothing Zehulic about it, but I'll give it another day and listen to other videos. As for now I'm voting for Jannick.

Listening to some more videos Jannick Top's Infernal Machina sounded a little flat to me while Zao were more interesting, not the best Zehul I've heard but good enough.
