In the UK the Post Office has been issuing commemorative stamps for each Brit gold medal won, and in the home town of the winning "athlete" they have also painted one post box gold. This is ours:
Our "local boy" being Peter Charles (who?) and the only slight problem is that he doesn't live here, he lives 5 miles away in a village called Bentworth (Oliver Tobias lives there too) [Wrong postbox painted gold in honour of Olympian Peter Charles] ... once the GPO has scraped up enough cash for another pot of gold paint I'll go and photograph that one too.

Ho-hum, anyway, here is his stamp:
Large image of the Team GB Gold Medal Winner Miniature Sheet - Scott Brash, Peter Charles, Ben Maher, Nick Skelton
... as you can see he's one of those posh "athletes" who won gold for sitting on a horse better than some posh "athletes" from other countries.
What?

Was that a Gilmour version of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" used by one of the gymnasts last night?  It didn't sound like the original.
Trust me. I know what I'm doing.

Little bit of a rant here - I don't know if this has been mentioned before, or if anyone actually cares that it bugs me but:

Since when did the asymmetric bars become the "uneven bars"?

Dumbing down??? I think so!

What next?

Archery becomes the "bow and arrow" event?

Canoeing the "skinny boat in rough water" competition?

Dressage the "upper class totty on poncey prancing horse" event?

Actually, that last one is the way I refer to dressage anyway

Already gave some alternatives on Facebook.Wink

What next, you ask? Well the way we are collectively becoming Ipod intelligent, you can expect “uneven bars” to be replaced by “well-stocked bars”, “110 m Hurdles” by a “110m of Debts”, “Team Handball” will become the texting gold medal championship and will be then called “Fingerball”. Of course “Beach Volleyball” will splinter into “Bitch volleyball” for the skanky girls and “Dude Volleyball” for the bronzed muscle boys. Some actually called it “Modern Pentothal” instead of “Pentathlon”, must have been a pharmacist. Good grief!

I will think of a few others but why should we be surprised when there are now only 3 verbs left in the English language to be, to have and the latest winner, to GRAB.

In the meantime , keep laughing like I do.

I never post anything anywhere without doing more than basic research, often in depth.

Also, quite a good time to be on a female team for america today. Congrats to both the soccer team and the water polo team for bringing home the gold! And the basketball and volleyball team advanced to the gold medal match. Add to that the beach volleyball teams and gymnatics team...been quite an olympics for them.

And congrats to that female boxer (whose name I don't remember) who took the only boxing gold for the US this year.

Congrats to the US women's basketball team for winning yet another gold. If only the volleyball team could of hung on there at the end....

Also, a great diving compeitition today for the 10m platform (men). Very exciting, and glad to see it wasn't all for China.

True, the French used to rule but they did even worse than the Hungarians who at least won the sabre gold totally unexpectedly! The good news is that such results are often unacceptable and 'escrime france' will be back!
