If the option 'other' wasn't there, I would go with Gavin Harrison, he has a nice style and he worked with Crimson, Porcupine Tree, two bands that I enjoy a lot.
Neil Peart and Mike Portnoy are really good drummers, don't get me wrong, but overrated a little bit.
The best drummer to my taste is Buddy Rich.

Other-Jo Koinzer from Germany's Brainstorm. A brilliant and overlooked player. My other favorites are Curt Cress, Enrico Grosso, Peter Giger, Carl Palmer, Jon Hiseman, Hans Bathelt, Paul Hammond

So many great ones, so its up to my current flavor of the month Maurizio di Tollo (look him up!) . A nod to Bonham in heaven.

Bruford for me. With Cutler, Vander, Collins close behind.

I'm still a little shocked that the Peart bandwagon is still being towed around. Hasn't anyone been listening to Rush for the past 30+ years?? He still has some prog chops but he isn't playing anything technical or interesting and hasn't done so since "Hemispheres." If this poll happened in 1978 or 1980 I'm sure he would have done quite well...but there are so many better drummers out there today that I'm still wondering why the Peart question keeps coming up!!!! I started playing drums almost 20 years ago and have been playing professionally for 10 of those years. The first song I ever learned was Tom Sawyer...should a beginner drummer at the age of 15 be able to rip through this song so easily? Not to mention this is probably the most complicated thing he has played since!!!!!!!
To not ever see drummers like Alan White or Nick D.Virgilio in these polls is a shame...it's always the same names over and over again. Why not be even more obvious and mention Bonham and Moon as well? This is only my opinion of course, but being prog fans I would expect a little more variety in the drummer / guitar player / bassist / singer polls. Neil Peart went from being one of the best drummers of the 1970's to being utterly plain and boring ever since...
..this is my opinion only, so feel free to rant and rave about what I said, but I won't really be here to fight it out because I really don't care. Enjoy!!!!!!

Harrison from the list, but as has been said many times here - there are a wealth of drummers in Prog that are better than most of these ... Ulrich is the least imaginative and most mundane drummer it's been my displeasure to endure a drum solo of - it was so tedious and dull I walked out in utter disappointment.

A more recent one would be Norway's Elephant9 drummer Torstein Lofthus - who additionally punishes toms in Shining. Love that guy!

I think the poll would have made sense if had been based on just music of this century.
It would then be a straight fight between Harrison and Portnoy for me. I'll vote Portnoy for his work with Neal Morse although the other stuff isn't bad either

I´m a big Portnoy fan and he´s a big inspiration to me but my vote will go to "others"! Just listen to the Turkish drummer Okay Temiz and you´ll see what I mean.
