I'll admit it. I'm a sucker for 80's comedies. They are one of my guilty pleasures (others might be awesomely bad 80's horror films or 50's Sci-Fi).
This poll is a homage to those films, and the actors who played them. You won't find some other 80's great comediants such as Woody Allen, or any of the Python's because, as the title of the poll indicates, and I don't mean to sound demeaning, I'm talking about a different kind of humour. More simple, sometimes idiotic. So I figured out Allen or the Python's wouldn't fit in this description. I see them more as an acquired taste. Humour not for the masses.
Pick your favorite one of the list, or choose another one you can think of. And please judge all the actors just for their 80's comedic work, and not for what became of their careers afterwards.
Some important movies these actors were part of include:
Leslie Nielsen: Airplane!, The Naked Gun
Bill Murray: Caddyshack, Stripes, Ghostbusters
Steve Martin: Three Amigos, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Plains Trains And Automobiles
Chevy Chase: National Lampoon's Vacation, Caddyshack, Fletch
Dan Aykroyd: Blues Brothers, Trading Places, Ghostbusters
John Candy: Stripes, Plains Trains And Automobiles
Eddie Murphy: Trading Places, Beverly Hills Cop, Coming To America
Steve Guttenberg: Police Academy Franchise
Tom Hanks: Big, Splash, Bachelor Party
Michael Fox: Teen Wolf, Back To The Future Franchise
Danny Devito: Throw Mama From The Train, Wise Guys
Michael Keaton: Beetlejuice, Night Shift, The Dream Team
John Belushi: Blues Brothers, Neighbors, Continental Divide
Rodney Dangerfield: Back To School, Caddyshack, Easy Money
Rick Moranis: Ghostbusters, Spaceballs, The Adventures Of Bob & Doug McKenzie: Strange Brew
Robert Carradine: Revenge Of The Nerds Franchise
Val Kilmer: Top Secret, Real Genius

Almost went with Bill Murray, but decided on Eddie Murphy - he was unstoppable in the 80s.

I don't know. You can say he was old, with a well established career and beyond good and evil, but he did participate in a couple of those dreadful Scary Movie spin offs (Stan Helsing, An American Carol) Edited by Morningrise - July 26 2012 at 20:47 |

You were the first one to make a judgement on Nielsen's whole filmography. I was just giving my response to that part. If your comment was meant to be taken as "never in the 80's"...well, my bad, then. Edited by Morningrise - July 26 2012 at 21:09 |

Bill Murray's close but my personal favorite from this list is Michael Keaton; his work in everything from Nightshift to Beetlejuice both rang true and was very funny.
