Study shows that sports drinks are a waste of money. I'm not terribly surprised.

Edit: Upon actually reading the report however, their conclusion is that there is "not of sufficient quality to inform the public about the benefits and harms of sports products". And they call for more research to be done. So I guess the jury is still out on this one. But most importantly, it points out a lot of biases and myths that are used in that industry.

Headline assumes that the value can be defined objectively.

Yeah, I realized that when I started reading the actual report. I have since corrected my mistake and feel slightly less embarrassed.

Economics teaches us that people can gain utility from things above and beyond their intended purpose. If people like the taste of a sports drink, or like the image it conveys then it may well not be a waste of money for them if they don't care about the alleged benefits,

I'm not sure the annoying, whiny, half-thought comments I make are worthy of producing shame.

It was more shame at the fact that I didn't finish reading/skimming the actual report before posting the article. Believe me, if half-thought comments actually shamed me on here, then I'd probably be overly-sensitive. It would be like, "Oh my god! Somebody on the internet made fun of me!"

Also, I thought this was pretty cool.

I am utterly devoid of any sense of shame, but that's not exactly news to anyone who has been paying attention.

The Olympics started today.

Got off to a good start with Noth Korea's football team walking off.  And why?  Because someone put the flag of South Korea next to the players names.  I dunno, touchy lot aren't they.  Its only a little matter of geography close enough surely?

I saw that on The Daily Show! Or was it the Colbert Report?... I guess the Muppet's were also working with Chick-Fil-A.. Not anymore! This all seems like a joke.

This story is extremely upsetting to me because A) Chick-Fil-A is delicious and B) the precedent of governments banning businesses because they don't like their political views is blatantly unconstitutional and could be very, very dangerous if left unchecked.

That place closes on Sundays. These days is quite unbelievable to see that someone decides to prefer to uphold their values instead of earning a buck. I'm sure the employees in that place value that fixed day off their schedules.

Yes, as Rob said, f**k the SSSMA.

It's utterly non upsetting to me but it does depend on how atrocious you find the comments.  Still let them do business.  I will never patronize Chik Ill Fate again.  Besides I only get a hungering for CFA sandwich on Sundays anyway. Tongue

Let's face up to this.  Dan Cathy is being a total dickweed.  They've got the money to challenge this in courts if they so desire.  A luxury many of us don't have.

No it doesn't. That's the whole point of freedom of speech. You can be as atrocious as you like without the hammer of government coming down on you. At least they have not issued a legal ban...yet. I still find the mayor's comments inappropriate though. If customers want to boycott, that's fine. I encourage that sort of activism, but government shouldn't tell businesses what they can and can't say.

Yea, leave them be. Personally I find McDonald's to be more prejudiced than Chick-Fil-A anyway. http://www.365black.com

But yea it isn't the government's job to tell people what to do. It's our job to tell them what to do. Oh wait. I'm wrong. I think it's rich people's job to donate to get people elected so they can tell those elected people what to do and completely ignore the needs of the many. Ok. Yea. I have it right now.
