Congratulations to Steven Wilson on a superlative slice of progressive music in the classic mould. To me it takes the best bits of traditional (ie "real") Prog Rock and brings it bang up to date - familiar without being derivative.

As for Opeth, well I am glad that "Prog Metal" has finally produced an album that is Prog Rock in the truest sense.

Pleased to see Wilson,Opeth and Kate Bush featuring high on the list (as they were on mineSmile). I guess great slabs of beautifully written, performed and produced music is just not enough for some folk. Wink

A nice snapshot.  If you were to do it again in a year I suspect there would be some shifts but largely the same results.  You set the terms and crunched the numbers.  No need for people to get cheesed at the results.  Hug

I'm very pleased to see Bilateral made the top 10. It was easily my number 1. My other favorite prog releases (Sympathetic Resonance and Mammoth) also faired quite well.

The only album that caught me by surprise was Kate Bush's.

Nice work, I'm looking forward to another great year in 2012

What a mind blowing list. I love this list because, the top 10 has 8 of my top 10. I never seen a list agree so much with my tastes as much as list. The only two I didn't have in my top 10 were Kate Bush and Haken.
I'm in the process of buying a new home, so I had missed seeing this list. My loss, because I got to get Kate Bush and give Haken another listen.  God Bless you for the list.

I agree with this list for the most part. Can't wait to see what comes up for 2012's list. I definitely expect Big Big Train and Devin Townsend Project to appear on it.

My top 3 for 2011 are

1) DREAM THEATER (A dramatic turn of events)
2) NIGHTWISH (Imaginarium)
3) SYMPHONY X (Iconoclast)

Solid albums. 2011 was a good year for prog.
