comment from usa today article:

"exactly. The Obama administration has brought the morality of our great Nation to its lowest point in history. Romney will fix all this when he takes office in 2013. He will restore morality in America and force slacker parents to man-up and take real responsibility for their children. A new era is upon us America! Help is on the way!"

What pisses me off more, is how much people have been looking forward to the premier of the new Batman movie, and that this guy knew exactly where and when he'd be to perform his acts. He had to have had this planned for weeks. I was on my way to see the movie myself when I found out about the Colorado incident. Really ruined my mood, and I may not have enjoyed the movie as much as I should have. Felt like crap all day today. The rain outside doesn't help.

I quit going to concerts and movies a few years ago.  I'm turning into an old fart, I know.   You damn kids get off my lawn!!!

I am seriously concerned about the nut jobs having easy access to better and better weaponry...

Not to sound insensitive, as I do feel for those who suffered, but I'm also mad that this movie is now tainted. The Batman movies seems to bring some level of bad luck.

They're undoubtedly cursed now, I believe what with Heath Ledger and the set guy's death as well as Morgan Freeman's car accident.

This headline pisses me off more, because reporters are trying to tie in the movie with the shooter's motivations or whatnot. Batman, the movie, the comics, the producers, nothing, had anything to do with why the shooter did what he did, aside from him probably thinking, "a dark crowded movie theater in the middle of the night should do the trick."

Headline:
"James Holmes rises as a new 'Dark Knight' villain after Colorado shootings"

Last thing I heard was that he fancied himself as the Joker...

The guy didn't attack a "chick flick".

The suspect wore a mask and threw gas canisters similar to bane. This is some crazy stuff, he really thought it through.
My sadness goes out to all those affected, truly a tragedy.

I also heard that there were striking similarities to the Joker.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if this guy had some type of schizophrenic personality disorder and which would be strange because he was studying to be a neuroscientist. I just find it odd that he would appear so quiet and cordial guy to his friends and others and have this other life, pull this stunt and then give in to police and explain everything. It has to be a personality disorder.

Just as I expect those in Syria to be more concerned about their situation than what happened today in Colorado.

I am just now realizing that he is the "Joker". Every individual that has committed an act such as this one is psycho. I am curious as to why many of them repeat the same pattern. Are they all copycats to some degree? You know the patterns. Several of these killers will take out a group of people and then kill themselves...as if rules were written to follow. Whatever? It was a horrible day. Very sad.

My point was we haven't really been paying attention to that situation and the government inflicted atrocities over there have ruined many more lives.

Its only natural to be more concerned with something that happens on your own doorstep.  I would be pretty concerned if we stopped paying attention to this kind of thing because it became such a regular occurance it seemed 'normal' and not newsworthy anymore.  It would be interesting to see how many column inches this story gathered without the Batman link.

Anyway, I hear he recently bought 4 guns and 6000 round of ammunition.  This sound quite a lot to my ignorant mind?  I would think this kind of purchase would be picked up - or is this standard?

We have a gun lobby here that is militantly against any gun regulations.  Mass murder has become a commonplace thing that we ignore.  Understandably and unfortunately so.

I know several people who own more than one gun. Some of them own five or six, some of them own ten or twelve and a couple of them own as many as eighteen or twenty. None of them ever bought more than one gun at a time. I do know one guy who bought four handguns in a two month period.
Since ammo comes in boxes of fifty rounds each I also doubt that he bought six thousand rounds at one time.

Must be nice to have that kind of spare cash lying around that you need to buy massive amounts of guns...

It does however give you the ability to kill anyone who threatens your stash of guns many times over.

So this wouldn't seem out of the ordinary in the States?   I believe he purchased all this over the space of a few weeks.
