We have plenty of events.

Watching other people waterski and wishing we could try it, but never summoning up the courage.
Staring at pictures of people that are more beautiful than us.
Talking about girls we never have talked to before
Who can make their own face the bloodiest using only a shoe.
"Cutting" techniques
Insult factory- A neat dark room you can go into and we will play a tape of people shouting insults

AND MUCH MORE

Are tickets just too expensive so that we can sigh about he we need a better job?

I have questions for you.
Where have you been?  In London
How was London? f**king Awesome
Why no story continue? Cuz I'm awesome and was in London
Why no story on first post? Cuz I'm lazy
Why did you not buy us tickets to London too? Because you're not Jewish

I find that London was the marking point. After London all I have is the impending doom which is the army... which is in two weeks. It's scary, really, not only because it's the army (I'm not actually scared for my life or anything) but because I'm stuck in this sh*t place getting screamed at and I have to deal with annoying people and frankly go into this state of mind I never had. In the end I might actually enjoy a lot of it, but right now it just looming over me, and the fact that it's 3 years of my life is not easy to grasp.

Things I learned about things and myself in London:

1. When you fly at night, and there's a lightning storm under you IT IS f**kING AMAZING
2. British people have rosy cheeks
3. British people are pretty ugly (love you Britain)
4. British weather sucks but it's nice to leave Israel when it's 35 degrees and go to a place with 20 degrees (that's like going from 110 Fahrenheit to like 60 Fahrenheit I think).
5. Being a tourist is just unsatisfactory for me- I think my entire family agrees. We've traveled so much that frankly it's hard to be impressed by anything, particularly in Europe. I'm really not interested in attractions or sh*t, but am more interested in "getting the vibe" of the city, exploring little alleys, and just talking to people. Five days isn't enough for that. More like a year... or at least a few months.
6. London is really great.
7. Subway trains are the f**king best. Tel Aviv needs some right f**king now.
8. I have further strengthened my definition of art which is "it is everything and nothing". The enlightening came when I was walking around the gigantic Tate Modern museum and heard some guy blurt (as so many do): "what a load of pretentious crap, if I could do it it's not art". Which made me think: why is art directly tied to human skill- or rather- to inhumane skill. It creates this weird paradox for me- we value art that manages to show human emotion, to affect us emotionally, and yet we feel that the art must reach a certain skill level to convey these emotions. We compare inhumane skill to see who can convey the most... humanity. It's a paradox which only makes me think even more that we as human beings do not understand any art and do not understand why we don't like or do like certain art.
9. Philadelphia cheese is f**king amazing.

Wow- you really did all that. i wasn't actually expecting so many words

But that sounds like you had a great time! And yea I think anything expressing emotion is art... but if it sucks and shows no talent even though it is still art, it shouldnt be worth 100K and be sitting in a prestigious museum.

Ori, it sounds like a good thing that you didn't choose to go to Bulgaria instead.  The article that I read said that many Israeli teens go there for vacation before their enlistment starts.

I can't fathom being forced into the military. Tis crazy stuffs. But I guess it would help ya get in shape and most likely you won't see combat.

I'll be sure not to start any Middle-East wars for at least 4 or 5 years just for you.

yeah it's spooky really. I heard about it just when we landed. Every time something like this happens everything it's really frightening and tragic. Frankly any such disgusting acts of terrorism just really don't make any sort of sense. Or any terrorism for that matter.

A man once won an art award by building a special door and putting a bucket filled with water over it.

This is art. Yes. I will still call it art. (Even though it's seriously been on Bugs Bunny probably a million times) But should the piece have been in a musuem? Heck no.

I don't know. It makes you think doesn't it? Does that count as art. Yes and no. Nothing is art. Everything is art. Poop.

Ori O'Monster:  Nice to have you back.  enjoyed your accounts of London, and I can only say I agree with everything you said.  That is to say, I believe that you are not lying.

I'm going to Chicago for 2 days next week for a healthcare conference.  My #1 priority is finding a good record store and finding the time to go there.

I don't know if any of you guys ever saw the show Murphy Brown.  One of the characters was a guy who was painting her house throughout the entirety of the show's seasons.  He painted murals.  I can't remember all of the details, but one of the episodes involved him having an art show.  I don't remember if he painted a mural on the ceiling, or if he had painter's block and didn't paint anything, but the art critics came into the room with 4 white walls and a light switch in it, and they stood around the light switch and oohed and ahhed about what an artistic idea it was and then debated about what it symbolized. LOL
