But my girlfriend (who is not a virgin) and myself (who is a virgin) actually agree on the "no sex" policy. I think her main reason is because she has had several relationships with exes (I can think of 2 off the bat) which degenerated into sex. And honestly, I've never seen what the big hoopla is with "getting laid" or "losing your virginity". It'll happen when it is meant to happen, and if that's once I'm married, then so be it.

This is basically why I lost my first girlfriend, she was so confused about whether sex is a key component to a relationship or not, it was sad to see. She had been warped in previously relationships and was absolutely paranoid about having to come to that decision. I didn't pressure her and I don't think she thought that was natural and then thought I didn't love her, etc., etc.

I'm glad you found someone who shares said belief, David, I wish I could.

Gentleman, I now just might frequent this thread.

Kill yourself (think of it as unsolicited charity work)

I always liked you comments in other threads but honestly... that's not a great statement coming from an admin/moderator concerning a political view.

Thanks a ton, man.

Apologies, the remark wasn't expressed well (it was a pale imitation of something Bill Hicks could have made funny)Embarrassed

Ah, it's fine man. Just not exactly the initial comment I was expecting when I figured out my beliefs fell into a specific political ideology. No biggie. Smile

And thanks to Jim, The T, Llama, Rob and whoever else I'm missing for the welcome as well. Smile

Cool beans. All are welcome but libertarians doubly so.

Some people said consciousness, but were unwilling to say that the act of going to sleep makes one less than a person. Some people said a fetus is not a person because it can't survive on it's own, but neither can a three year old or someone who is in a full body cast. I never heard a convincing and consistent reason why a fetus is not a person, but these other cases are. In my book, if it's alive and has human DNA, it's a person.

I'm really glad I missed the abortion debate, but I just want to add to this particular musing that I believe the definition of person should encompass more than just an alive thing with human DNA.

Am I the only one who finds it deeply troubling that the president can repeatedly express openly his utter contempt for business, capitalism, and the American dream without it hurting him at all i the polls? I'm pretty much resigned to the fact that 51% of the country would now prefer to be zoo animals who are fed and kept comfortable in their cages rather than have any kind of control over their own lives.

I think that's a really unfair assessment. To begin I'm not so sure how much he expresses a contempt for capitalism and business. You can find rhetoric where he diminishes it when he's pushing certain ideas through and other rhetoric that extolls it when he wants to pass a jobs plan or something else along those lines.

Regardless though, people supporting him because he verbalizes these opinions does not mean they long to be tied up in shackles and leeched by the government. They don't see capitalism as something which increases their freedom. In their minds capitalism replaces a centralized government they feel they control with a centralized conglomerate of businesses which, aside from them not controlling, they see as necessarily preying on them because of their profit incentive. It's very well that they suppose the government by restricting business will be able to increase possibly the potential freedom, but most certainly the realized freedom, of the people. A lot of starving men would trade their freedom for a hot dog and be more free for it. A lot of people are starving right now.

I also don't like the tone of the article. What does it matter that Obama, or anybody at all, has never run/started a business? I would prefer an article which just describes the process without appealing to some ill forged authority as an ad hominem attack. It probably infuriates us when people use the reciprocal argument that Obama's having studied Constitutional Law and owning a shiny degree negates our criticism of his unconstitutional policies.

I agree with you about the tone of the article. I knew the story from several earlier articles that merely reported his speech without comment, and I still find it outrageous. I think that it's clear that Obama does not like the private sector and would make all jobs government jobs if he could.

I also think it's clear that most people have reached the point where free stuff is more important to them than anything else. That's why so many people support the ACA (despite the fact that it will make things more expensive not less,) tax hikes for the "rich" and endless, unsustainable medicare, medicaid and social security. You may disagree with this analysis, but it's how I see things at the moment and it depresses me immensely.

Saying free stuff makes it seem so trivial. Wanting to be able to have life prolonging surgery has a different connotation than free stuff. I sympathize with the desire. I can't blame anyone for it. I think it's our job to explain that provision through the means currently supported constitutes theft, will decrease quality, and can not be continued indefinitely.

I don't think people care about the theft issue anymore. Just a few days ago I was having an argument with a guy on here who insisted that theft is perfectly justifiable "if you need it." Sadly, I think a lot of Americans would now agree with that.

I am usually not this pessimistic about people, but having to follow the news so closely for my job has put me in a gloomy frame of mind about the future of the country. I'm pretty pleased with my personal life at the moment though! Smile

Maybe I read too much Whitman and Thoreau, but I tend to be optimistic regarding people and their motives. Glad that you're back and your personal junk is going well.
