How many current pop singers right now sound exactly like this before they autotune it?

Well, it's gotten even worse since Madonna, so she may not seem as bad compared to the artists she influenced.

The biggest disgrace of music history:  the way the radio stations took control of music by giving what people want. You can't trust radio and people who listen to music only by radio.

I could agree with most people regarding Mad Donna apart from one thing.

Ray Of Light.

It's a good album - great music - sensible lyrics - no sexual overtones - probably her only really grown-up album. It's not Chopin, but it's not a disgrace.
What?

^I agree on Ray of Light, but my sixth sense tells me that is all down to William Orbit.

I may be slightly mad, but I rather like songs like Lucky Star, Get Into the Groove and Vogue, if only for some kitschy nostalgic reasons. I do however think she has portrayed the modern female pop star in a way that only seeks to replicate itself infinitely. Maybe not her fault, but it sure is getting tiresome. Latest is Lady GuGu, although she's mixed the Madonna quotient with one part Marilyn Manson one part David Bowie to establish some kind of sexy androgenous superstar. Oh well she can play the piano.
My point is that originality seems to be external these days. Not much ado about the actual music, and the Madonnas sure had a huge helping hand in that feat.

Well, there you go - you've named four pop stars who created a stage persona then acted it out in real life - while that in itself is a rare talent (many try and many fail), it is still nothing without the goods to back it up and I think all four of them managed that with ease.
What?

Sure, you can say a lot about them, but they all 4 are highly successful.

2 Punk Rock. They have no technical prowness whatsoever and also rely on image and attitude. They basically killed all the attempts of making something relatively complex with rock music.

3 Nirvana. While I liked the band when I was a teenager and I still do I realized that their influence was negative because they put the last nail in the coffin of rock music.

1. Agree with the good looks but I think Madonna, along with Michael Jackson is what is the most present in popular music today.

2. I love the lyrics of early punk rock. And also, it is a genre of music that can be complex. For example, the Cardiacs.

3. I love Nirvana. And they didn't put the last nail in the coffin in rock music.

It does put matters into perspective that this guy sell more copies of his albums than 98% of the artists in the Progarchives database.

...and I wonder how many prog bands that manage to assemble this number of fans for a single concert.

I see we're deep in Eurotrash waters right now.

These guys -- needles to say -- have 5 platinum and over 20 gold records.

All of their songs sounds like this:

The Partridge Family. Sappy tv show too, so there's two offenses, although I guess you can forgive Shirley Jones for wanting to work with her kid.

I've posted this in a different thread a while ago, so I'll probably be banned for doing so again:

Stop hating on Madonna. She is far from the worst in music. True Blue is fantastic pop album.

Stop hating on punk rock, too. Sometimes I want something more immediate than what prog delivers. It is not all "image and attitude", no more than prog is (or rap, or country, etc.).

I agree completely. While the initial ideology of some of the more radicals was beyond stupid, there is a ton of great punk music out there: Fugazi, Refused, Dead Kennedys, there would be no Naked City if it weren't for punk.
