Topic: For everybody living under socialized medicine Posted: July 09 2012 at 13:21 |
Ok I have opened this question to all socialized health care systems, even there's no one single universal model. Again, is it true there are long waiting times? Old people denied costly procedures? Myth or truth?

I am. But for this to be meaningful you really need to throw in other socialized medicine systems in other countries...

I might hypothesize that being "satisfied" is less likely to come up than "it's better than the other option".

Say what?!??!?!?
"Socialized medicine" ... is that like where we all get together and drink Cough Mixture until we fall asleep? (dude)
Socialized medicine is a term used to describe a system for providing medical and hospital care for all at a nominal cost by means of government regulation of health services and subsidies derived from taxation.[1] It is used primarily and usually pejoratively in United States political debates concerning health care, because of the U.S. culture's historically negative associations with socialism. |
...Ah - you mean the rest of the civilised world's health care systems. Yeah, we love it more than you love yours.

The UK's NHS is one of the finest institutions in the world. I hope to God it doesn't get dragged into privatisation by the Tories.

Oh yea? Well rub it in why don't ya. This is the greatest country ever that lived ever existed and ever will exist. At least we are more free to have to pay more and have less coverage than you!
And at least we have more freedoms than everyone... oh wait no that's not right we really dont. And at least we have lots of guns... oh yea and murder. We have a lot more murder. That sucks. At least we have a much less corrupt government than everyo... oh wait. Our government sucks.
At least we have great music here! Oh wait, you guys have just as much and your pop music is more listenable? Dang it.
Umm.... I'm running out of reasons to live in this country. GOD DANG IT. When can I move to Europe already?

Immigration is much harder than most people anticipate. Also, the natives of that country will probably resent you for it. Hooray!
And about the other stuff, America still has an insane amount of innovation and progress in science, engineering, IT/computers, and medicine, even if it's not the WE'RE #1 bullsh*t that gets thrown around by politicians. That's draining slowly like everything else, since we're letting our education fall behind and making college more unaffordable by the second. Give it 10 years and China will certainly surpass us with innovation.

Ha- I'm sure I could find friends. I can deal with 100 million people hating me if I have 4 great friends.
But for sure we do have crazy innovation. One big problem is college for sure. My sister is a doctor, her husband is a dentist. They are both so far in debt that even with the good salaries it will take till they are at least 35 to actually have money. They might make a decent bit but they are probably each around 250K in debt (and there's no way around it anymore)- and the interest rates are higher than you think, AND of course those first few years out where you're doing residency for only 30K a year while work 80 hours a week? You can't wait to pay those debts off. They expect you to start paying them immediately.

Speaking of hospitals, Phideaux is one the directors of the surviving US soap operas - Genereal Horsepittal...

No, but it is always getting better. The state-funded healthcare system is still terrible due to mismanagement, corruption, lack of funds and deficient policing organizations (in order to avoid the other three), but the state it is in is much better than it was some 5 years ago even.
Privatized healthcare is devilish, though. They can literally let people die in order to get some more $ and that is unacceptable.

I wouldn't know as I haven't been to a doctor in at least ten years. From what I've heard it's not great, but it could be a lot worse.

I am very satisfied with my countrie's health care system - especially when I stack it up against any other outside Scandinavia really.

In France? Never experienced, seen or heard of such things. Pure propaganda. But it's France, not USSR or DDR...
