Based on those descriptions I think I will stay away from Haken.

^ Haven't you heard them already anyway?

I'm talking about Devin Townsend, not Dream Theater, by the way.

I bought a Sigur Ros album at that store too, and the guy at the store said, "oh yeah, you going to see their concert?"  They were to be playing there in a couple of weeks.  Yow.

Philly sounds like my kind of town. Shocked

Yeah, I'm not even going to be able to go to the concert when they're in Lawrence, feels bad man. Ouch

Yea well I heard a lot of Ziltoid in some of the guitar riffs, as well as the symphonic wall of sound with distorted guitars.

Tickets are absolutely impossible for locals to get. I wish I could go for sure, it's a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Haken is actually very good. Visions requires one listen. If you hate it, whatever. But give it one chance. It might surprise ya. :-D

And yea the Dream Theater influence is there for sure. But the first 5 years of Dream Theater mostly. Haken does a lot of what used to make Dream Theater so great.

Just finished Visions. I'm a fan after one listen. I can't wait to listen to it again.

Trying to keep up with new releases, so I'm going back to the new Mars Volta. Might check out new Echolyn later.(maybe Mei first.

When it was here in 2005, we had a great time.  I was out in leftfield for the home run derby.  We had a few come in our general direction, but for the most part most of the home runs went to rightfield, where my usual seats are.  We had a partial year season ticket package so we were given some priority to purchasing tickets.  They were quite expensive, but it was something that was really cool to experience.

That is good to hear.  There seem to be only a few of us that like Visions around these parts.  On MMA, member Wilytank seems to severely hate them.

HAHAHAH! Yea I read that review.

I mean, I would give Haken a solid 4.5/5 rounded down to a 4. It was a GOOD album.

But 0%? Seriously? I would maybe say you could give them 25% as a LOWEST score if you really really hate it that much. But they deserve better than that. :-D

You would almost think that the lead singer raped his sister and then proceeded to steal his girlfriend in order to generate that much hatred.

Ya know, if Haken was a black metal band, that would actually generate so much hatred that you would have to like them.

I must admit that I never really paid much attention to the story though.  I didn't realize that it was the soundtrack to Little Mermaid or Splash.  LOL

That alone, should make it more interesting for Matt. Wink

Just got a call for my first paid live sound gig. Neat? Neat. Now as soon as I get off my ass and start writing music again, I'll be a busy bee. 4 music-related projects? Me gusta.
