From now on if you post more than three times in a 24 hour period, your post does not count. Updated the OP.

Come now, it's just a game. I personnaly just don't care for DT, I think they're quite overrated. As far as Prog metal goes, Fates Warning, Voivod, Savatage, even Metallica was doing some proggy stuff in the 80's, and theres other band and such came before DT also, so DT didn't really 'save' Prog Metal.

Also theres plenty of people here who love Dream Theater. Andy loves DT. DT are like Genesis, there lots of love for the band, and lots of hate for the band, and theres plenty so-so.

Aside from Rush, they are the ONLY real money making prog band out there, and I believe they have brought a lot of attention to the genre that it would not have had otherwise.  As such, I also believe many other bands have DT to thank for a) exhisting at all, or b) gaining popularity over the last decade.  But here, so many people will vote against them no matter who their opponent is, and will jump into any dt related conversation to say how they dislike DT or even hate them, and honestly - you're doing yourselves a disservice by doing that because you're driving people away.  Quit hating on one of the best things to happen to the genre.  It's silly of you, and you're only hurting your own community by doing so.  If you want other bands to gain recognition, stop hating on DT - accept them and even welcome them, and then you have a connection point with the millions of DT fans out there, and you can then promote your favorites to those fans.

So what you are telling us is that you are a huge fan of The Beatles?

If being disingenuous about tastes in music is what it takes to grow our community, then I don't want to be a part of this community.

Yeah, they SHOULD.  You're basically driving away the site's best customers with all the anti-DT sentiments.

Not a huge Beatles fan, but I love much of their music.

Think of it this way: over on MMA, what if there was a large crowd of Metallica or Megadeth haters?  I'd say the same things to them - stop disrespecting the bands that made it possible for your favorites to exist, and be more accepting: you might be able to make new fans of the bands you like that way.

^C'mon. This is a simple game thread. Not a DT argument thread. We've heard it all before.

On the front page of Prog Metal, Dream Theater has the top 2 spots, and they have 4 albums on it overall. I in no way see that as Dream Theater hate.

It's one of many.  Every single thread that DT comes up in, they lose, and every thread that they are mentioned in, someone has to jump in and declare their dislike or even hatred of them.  It's stupid and tiring and very annoying.

Yea,,,,   No. Disliking Dream Theater has no connection with driving people away from the site. if anything, it will generate MORE people to join to argue with the people who aren't big fans of DT.

People do have the right to dislike a big band. I highly dislike Genesis, but I see their importance to prog. I highly dislike DT, but I do see their importance to prog. Just because they are a big band doesn't mean everyone has to like them. Nor does disliking a band mean being disrespectful.

Now lets stop this nonesense please.

Yeah, in prog metal.  Which is generally disliked around here - many people think it doesn't even belong as a sub-genre.

My favorite bands existed before 1989.  Stern Smile

Well, here goes a full page of skipping on the game being played just to argue about people not liking a band enough.

:-D Haha

This is funny so I'm ok with it continuing.

But really, Dream Theater are pretty good. Heck, I'd say Metropolis Part 2 is one of the greatest metal albums of all time for SURE.

But at the end of the day, they are not as good as I wish they were. They are amazing musicians and used to be able to write great songs in their heyday, and heck, even the new album is sweet, but they have one of the worst vocalists in modern music (which has spawned a BILLION other Dream Theater clones that also have awful vocalists and amazing musicianship and bad songwriting)

NOW LETS STOP THIS NONESENSE, PLEASE.

Go make a DT appreciation thread and discuss there, I'm positive there's an existing one.

Thanks to this website I'm an avant-garde black metal enthusiast. People hate on the screamy screech noisy growl extreme prog that I love more than anything except for my own music, but I'm not going to make a big fuss about how Arcturus and Thy Catafalque aren't appreciated enough around here. I'm open to more music being on this site. Heck, I would LOVE there to be an avant-punk section. But let's just play this game. :-D It's been pretty fun so far. Maybe VDGG will get denounced and destroyed here soon. I won't mind. I'll just laugh and think. "Man, people suck."

I think the only one driving away anybody is you, Geoff, by defending DT all the time. I think the only one doing themselves disservice is you. DT doesn't need you defending them. You want people to get more into DT's music? Then stop pushing them down people's throats, and let people make up their own minds about them.
