I don't know why you didn't go...I went last night and thought it was a great movie despite all the nay-sayers.  I didn't even think the story was as frightfully bad as many complained...everything was at least on the "Good" level, and nearly everything was at least on the "great" if not "awesome" level.  I'm totally glad I dragged someone along to see it with me, and she even seemed to enjoy it.

Some friends want to go see Brave today...I'll probably go because I'm bored, but I doubt it'll be able to match Prometheus on any level...

Iron Man 2

Overall a fairly limp sequel to the terrific first film, not that they didn't try but the distractions of other characters leading up to the inevitable Thor/Nick Fury/Avengers crossovers thinned an already limited premise.  Things are helped a bit by the excellent Sam Rockwell as Downey's main weapons competitor and the always good Mickey Rourke as a crazy Russian genius.

A Night to Remember

Though highly understated and not entirely convincing, this fourth or fifth crack at telling the disaster on film is also to-the-point and mostly free of extraneous subplotting.  James Cameron's epic may be more technically correct and dramatically facile, but the look and cast of this 1958 British production feels right and the visuals still look terrific.  Far superior to any of the earlier show-biz trash versions or bizarre German propaganda flicks, A Night to Remember is probably the most sober and carefully made of the Titanic movies.

It was a good movie.  I like the themes.  1980s sci fi is fun for seeing how people think the future would be- flying cars but no cell phones.  My wife went to bed midway through, but I think the themes of eternal life and all are very well presented.  Directors in the 80s loved lens filters though, didn't they? I think I'd like to read the book.

The book is good, but it's a fairly different story from the movie.  One of the few cases in which I prefer the movie to the book, actually.

^ well the nice thing about sci-fi is that it's malleable; maybe all that rain in future Los Angeles makes cellphones impractical

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

As good or better second chapter in Guy Ritchie's re-imagining of the Doyle characters as they dash across Europe trying to derail an attempt to provoke a world war by Professor Moriarty played brilliantly cold by Jared Harris.   Holmes' ability to see tactics evolve in his head is further explored to good success, as is the emphasis on 19th Century technology and the bond between Watson and Holmes.   Over the top and suspends reality at times but never at the expense of good fun or an involving story.

Wanderlust: one of those s$%tty, historically insignificant (I suppose) movies.
