I think I made these points the last time this thread was active.
1. I'd rather kill for my country. 2. Only if were death by chocolate. |

I can understand your anger at me, but what did the horse I rode in on ever do to you?

I guess the answer is probably depends on blah blah blah..
I would die for my family. I would die for my closest friends. And if my country was being attacked by say, North Korea for example and they fancied forcing me to live without decent music. Would I wait till they got to my front door and smashed up my stereo before I picked up a gun? I would probably start a bit earlier.
(I haven't read much of this so its probably been said before)

^ Every single dictator since the dawn of time has exploited your moral scruples to their own ends i.e. they can do whatever they damn well like until it impacts on those closest to you, then you act. Wise up, it's too late by then.

Luckily, we always have somewhere a cruel dictator who can make us fear a bloody invastion and the installation of a totalitarian regime in our countries. So, we are ready to die for our country if it was attacked by said dictator - even if said evil country is located far, far away, through the oceans.
It's not like we were asked to fight against our own governments. Yeah, we don't have to worry about the people we choose as leaders. Never have to. Come on, we're living in democracies. All our leaders are good, sympathetic, generous and to be trusted. |

Yes, if our "leaders" were the first ones in line to die there would be a lot less war. Edited by Slartibartfast - January 15 2012 at 07:31 |

It's complicated. Even in such a politically messed up place such as the Middle East and Israel, I still won't sacrifice myself if I have a choice, not for ideological reasons. On the other hand, if my country would be legislating some very un-democratic laws, as it is doing now, I'd probably take it to the streets, as I'm doing now. I guess I'd fight if my country loses its democratic identity, but I'd never sacrifice my life willingly.

A country is a region legally identified as a distinct entity in political geography.

Would my country die for me? HELL no. No one gives a crap about one person.
So would I die for my country? No. Because I only care about music.
I was taught to turn the other cheek, run away, and not get in fights.
