Gentle Giant VDGG Frank Zappa Magma Marillion
A lot of people like em, but I can't seem to get into them, especially Magma.

I strongly dislike Brain Salad Surgery, except for a few highlights on Karn Evil 9. All the common criticisms of Works Volume 1 of the band members going off in their own incoherent directions and overindulging at every turn seems to apply just as well to that album. Karn Evil 9 First Impression Part 2 puts a serious speedbump in the pacing of the suite; they literally attached a radio-friendly edit of the First Impression and stuck it on the end of it. What if Yes had taken their single edit of Soon from Gates of Delirium and stuck it after the entire thing so that the Soon section played twice? That's what that feels like. Apart from this, the Second and Third impressions are good but nowhere near as satisfying or classic as Tarkus.
I also have never liked Echoes by Pink Floyd. Most of Floyd's stuff doesn't resonate well with me because it's not real prog but "pop-prog," in the same way as Rush's Moving Pictures only without the energy.

Same here ... although I do have to do a bit more research on Marillion.
I personally like Zappa's "Shut Up And Play Yer Guitar".

As much as I dislike "I hate" threads, I will reluctantly add my two cents worth. These are bands/artists I don't care too much for, no matter how hard I have tried to listen to them: Frank Zappa Captain Beefheart Rush The Flower Kings and most Tech/Extreme Metal artists
It all comes down to personal taste in the end and that must be respected, whether we like it or not!

I forgot about Captain Beefheart! He's got some songs I like but in general, I find him sloppy.

Not heresy , just a recognition that singing is preferred over shouting at the mike and playing melodies doesn't make you a woose.
There are some great songs on MoP, but tBA has the edge.

I'm most defineatly wil not use the word hate, but these are some artists that I have tried listening to but just cant seem to get into. Dream Theater (Good musicianship but theres something about Labrie's voice that doesn't appeal to me) Porcupine Tree Transatlantic (Same issue I have with DT) Radiohead Magma (Although I'm really trying) Supertramp (This may be a rare group that I plain dislike) The Majority of Jethro Tull ( I really enjoy Passion Play, Minstrel in the Gallery and Songs from the Wood but thats about it) That's all I can think of right now, but I know that as soon as I post this I'll start loving each of these bands. It seems that as soon as I say something negative about a group I start to understand them. This is what happened for me with Pink Floyd and Mars Volta.

Sweet. Keep writing, then. You don't know how much you are missing on those '71-'72 Tull'uns.

Master of Puppets is just as melodic as the black album and I don't see any difference in singing style apart from the ballads on the latter. Don't confuse "complex" or "heavy" with "unmelodic".
