When you said "ideal PA lineup," at first I thought you meant a band composed of members of this site! Which would probably be an interesting topic, too. You could kick out everyone in my first suggested lineup except for Rob and I, add Phideaux and Smurph, and then a drummer...who plays drums around here? |
That would be pretty cool. If you guys needed a guitarist or a piano player, I'm the guy! Austin (Horizons) plays drums and I assume he's quite good considering he can play Mars Volta material.

Alright, well, here we go: Phideaux: vocals, acoustic guitars, synthesizers Max (Fox on the Rocks): Piano and keyboards Rob (Epignosis): Bass, mellotron, guitar, backing vocals Austin (Horizons): drums and percussion deleriumofthethush: drums and percussion Greg (Smurph): guitar Jacob (Ambient Hurricanes): guitar and backing vocals Now we've got our PA supergroup . |
You can also include Me. Three drummers on one band.

Sounds good. Wow, I see a lot of guitars, and two drummers! Aw yeah. What kind of music would we be making? |
I don't know. If I had my way, it would be heavy prog bordering on metal with avant-garde tinges and incorporating sections of post-rock and Iona-style synthy interludes. Lots of dissonance, great riffs, emotional and intense, lots of tension, somewhat depressing with a few glimmers of hope to point forward. That's just what I've been writing lately, but put all our heads together and who knows what we'd come up with . |
Why don't you guys just give it a try, you could just try and record and share through internet, many artists are doing it that way this days. Perhaps one song, at least a cover.

Sounds a bit like Toby Driver material. Hey Jacob, I checked out your band on youtube - sounds great. I didn't listen to the two covers, but I listened to the two originals and yeah, you guys are really good players, especially you, I mean you rip on that guitar. You utilize some pretty interesting chords and your bassist has got some good chops.
|
Thanks. Those chords I'm playing really aren't that complicated; most of them are just basic major and minor diatonic chords. There's another original video on our feed that was uploaded on a different channel where I use some jazz chords and stuff, though. That's the one we submitted to a battle of the bands in our area; there's a link in the comments where you can go vote if you want, anyone can do it. You might not have noticed the drummer as much, because he was in the background a bit, but he's really good too; not super flashy but amazingly solid, and some of his fills on Remind Me are pretty epic. Andrey: the links are in my sig, they're embedded in the text. You can view videos of the performances at the youtube link.

This is completely non-prog but, I think it would be cool if Joanna Newsom and Jay Munly performed together. Just the two of them, Joanna on harp and occasional piano, Munly on banjo, both singing...I suspect it would be amazing.
If they need percussion, they could use the guy Joanna brings on tour with her, I don't know his name but his percussion is really interesting and I feel it'd work well with what I imagine their music would end up being.

Well, there's Liquid Tension Experiment... you might like that one. Almost all Dream Theater, but without a singer, and Tony Levin on Bass instead of Myung.
Oh, I was just thinking, what if Dream Theater had gotten someone like Dio instead of LaBrie when they were looking for a vocalist... that might just as well have been an ideal line-up too.

^ Something along the lines of The Grateful Dead since you have two drummers.
Bill Bruford: "Nobody knew what on earth kind of music we were supposed to be making anyway."
I guess, imitating prog bands or mixing prog with rap? Nein. Experimental prog. Using Mellotron as a rhythm instrument.
