The T: I'm pretty hard to offend but I can't say no word offends me. The N word can get me pretty good. (When used seriously- I can take it facetiously.) It's the worst word I can think of off the top of my head.

I only brushed over it but this thread seems to have gone from taking censorship out of context, to Abortion debate, to Textbook vs the mods.

Ah well. Nothing new there. Thumbs Up

You are right though, A LOT of people who swear generously are just lazy. Lazy English. Which is what a prof told me once, she didn't mind at all...just it's over/lazy use. That really stuck with me.

f***in s**t ***t
Swearing isn't lazy - I don't understand how adding extra f*cking words into a p*ssing sentence can be c*cking tw*t lazy - swearing doesn't replace other adjectives and superlatives.
Quote Swearing is a really important part of one's life. It would be impossible to imagine going through life without swearing and without enjoying swearing... There used to be mad, silly, prissy people who used to say swearing was a sign of a poor vocabulary -such utter nonsense. The people I know who swear the most tend to have the widest vocabularies and the kind of person who says swearing is a sign of a poor vocabulary usually have a pretty poor vocabulary themselves... The sort of twee person who thinks swearing is in any way a sign of a lack of education or a lack of verbal interest or -is just a f*cking lunatic... I haven't met anybody who's truly shocked at swearing, really, they're only shocked on behalf of other people. Well, you know, that's preposterous... or they say 'it's not necessary'. As if that should stop one doing it! It's not necessary to have coloured socks, it's not necessary for this cushion to be here, but is anyone going to write in and say 'I was shocked to see that cushion there, it really wasn't necessary'? No, things not being necessary is what makes life interesting -the little extras in life.

The threads troll award definitely goes to you.

I must say that it's very very difficult to not want to start the classic pointless debate with you over such a blatantly moronic post.

Good job Clap

Do you know who the people are who have the closest musical tastes to me?

here is a short list a few of them:

Pat (Equality)
Ian (Snowie)
Guigo (Atkingani)
Brian (Slarty)
Iván (Ivan)
Brian (JJLehto)
Alan (colorofmoney)
Pedro (Moshie)
Geoff (dtguitarfan)
Teo (The T)
You, sorry I don't know your real name (Textbook) - except that wrapping stuff that isn't The Disposible Heroes of Hiphoprisy or Tinie Tempah

...I could go on, but I'll stop there - obviously I have catholic tastes as many of those named are not musically compatible with each other, I've had heated arguments with some of them and not others and their musical tastes or political, philosophical or moral persuasions has had little bearing on that. If someone posts a comment that I believe to be wrong or makes an incorrect statement then I'll wade in with my size 11s. I'll disagree on principle with anything Oliver (stoned) says about Hi-Fi, homoeopathic medicine and the environment, but not about his choice in music; I'll disagree with Rob(epignose) about taxation, education and the minimum wage but I have little or nothing in common with him musically. [edit: as you may have noticed in religious debates, as an atheist I am more likely to side with Rob (theist) and Pat (atheist) than yourself (atheist), Mike (atheist) or Iván (theist)]. People who like what I like are not me.

Hey bob,

I read your concern quite loud and clear (and share them somewhat)Hug, but outside my first answer to you, you seem to be preaching in the desert (a very croweded desert, but no-one listening)..;

we might have to open a separate thread about this issue, which is definitely worth debating

My personal concern which I haven to be using this thread to voice, is for the overall balance and future of the site.

I joined this site in its early days when it was dedicated to prog in what i would define as it's purest form. Believe it or not, we had a long debate about whether Tangerine Dream should be added back then.

The general discussions and other non-prog sections were there for those who main passion was the music to discuss other matters of mutual interest. The success of the site though has led to people with little genuine interest in prog joining and participating in primarily the non-prog areas. Their interest in music is comparatively superficial and they spend more time in the non-prog sections than they do writing reviews and contributing to the prog discussions. I am of course generalising and I am of course referring only to certain unnamed members. I don't buy into the like/don't like philosophy with people I've never met, so I will keep my comments general.

I would like to see the site pulled back to being first and foremost about the music. I would genuinely like to see those who use the site mainly as a means of discussing controversial and sensitive matters go elsewhere and stop hijacking the site. Of course I do not wish to stop such discussions, but my perception is that they were far more constructive, informed and frankly interesting when they were among friends with a common prime interest.

These days, for me the site is spoiled by those who don't really care about it's reason for existing, but use it as a means of massaging their own egos.

I am genuinely concerned about the way the site is going. If we lose our prog experts and devotees the site will be in danger and the trolls will simply go elsewhere.

If I may, right from the start, we had people like Velvet Clown that were only interested in goofing around the forums... we put up with him for four years, because he was a big Zappa fan, but he was there already before the debate whether to include Zappa in PA (if memory serves).. I remember the discussion to include Procol Harum or Traffic as well, BTW Wink

But if the political discussion and moral issues topics of the general discussion forum and general polls forum don't spill over to the other forums, then I don't really see where the problem is.... And while I'm certainly not prone to do Admin works like checking for possible contamination of other sections of the form.... I haven't spotted any - is this an issue with Admins and has there been many cases of that??

But yeah, I can see where some members participate only to these controversial subjects and are rarely seen posting in music threads (which does not mean they don't read it)... Yes, then we can wonder what these dudes (and dudettes, maybe) are doing here?Confused

In the earlier PA days' debates, I used the RYM site and its well-frequented forums as a kind of model (not necessarily to be followed) and how that site had a separate political section, where the flame wars were much worse than it ever got here... But the RYM music forum remains focused on music... And I think that 90% of the different PA forums are still quite focused on all kind of music aspects or site issues...

So your worries (no doubt they are important to you - as they are to me >> to me, in a way: EL = PA) might just be a premonition, but I don't think we'd be headingin the worst case scenario you're talking about..

as said in my previous post to your concern, I remember most collabs leaving PA for internal database management issues, and not for forum incivilities or lack of focus...

But yeah, I feel for you and your worries, my friend

Who has annoyed me here?

I don't mind annoyances because I know I annoy others from time to time.  What I don't do is make vague accusations.  When I have a problem with an individual, I engage them or, if the situation is dire, I request the assistance of an admin.

Understatement of the year, dude!! But I'd call you a nuisance, really!! LOL

I'm kind of happy to be at the top of your list, tooApprove... You're the only one on mine (since you cared and dared to post a listPig)... or at least a run away gold medal universe nuisance olympics

Not that it makes my day or anythingTongue...
But you've made things pretty difficult with your  "Yeah, but what if I don't agree?? " stuff, to try to block or manipulate any kind of progress (you've easily outdone micky in that department, but at least micky was fun)

This is sounding like a publicized buddy listTongueWink (which I've almost never used anywhere on any site - RYM excepted, but there it's mostly to keep track of who is who, and it intervenes in the music rating average >> an interesting feature actually)

But you're right, it's not because we'd agree musically that we would politically or ethically ... or the other way around.

Wooooo, finally made it on someones sh*t listApprove

Is it time to make the sh*t list thread and hurt a lot of feelings, but then make up and be friends?
After all, things rarely seem to progress when people are passive aggressive. A blunt f**k you and usually a few minutes later its aaaallll good.

I declare this thread successful in supreme trolliness.

Since we're discussing who annoys us vs. who we like, I've only been annoyed by maybe two people on this forum.

Can we get back to discussing vaginas now?
