I listened to all of Amputechture walking home from my exam today - fantastic record. The musicianship is just breathtaking and the energy is so vibrant, it perfectly suited the weather I was walking in - extremely hot and humid.

Yea if the intro and outro were more interesting and or shorter that album would have been fkkkkkin PERFECT

Jon was much better. Thomas has no dynamics.

Oh yeah, for sure. Both excel in technical aspects, but in terms of emotion, dynamics and techinque, Jon, no contest. I really wish he was still in the band, he must have been a huge influence on all the other musicians in the band. Roulette Dares (The Haunt Of) is a tour de force for drumming, well in fact, all of De-Loused is really. Approve

JT left because he wanted to smoke weed and sit around all the time and Omar likes to practice 6 hours a day and 2 hours every day WHILE ON TOUR. JT did not have his heart in it enough for Omar and omar is tough to work with

T Prigden left because Cedric and him had it out- Tprig is young and crazy and does drugs and stuff and I guess that didnt like having that around because of their past.

Also, I think omar was realizing that Tprig is great but that he's not quite as versitile as he wanted him to be.

Although, if you listen to Omar's solo albums with Tprig they're very good. Xenophanes and Calibration come to mind.

So in between working on what I'm supposed to be working on (i.e. work), I wrote 4 Residents reviews today, two for albums I really like and two for albums I don't really like.  I'm an even-handed Residents fan.

But if you like The Mars Volta I'm finally realzing where they got a lot of their sound.

Bubu
Cervello
Osanna
Banco Del Mutuo
Il Balletto Di Bronzo

All pre 80's and some of what they did is just like Volta.

That's why they should have kept Jon. The guy was extremely versatile and willing to play rhythms that benefited the music well, rather than Thomas, which I do love his style of course.
Yeah, I can see Omar as being a bit stubborn and controlling. Well, I mean, it's his music anyways so he should be in control of how it's going to sound as finished product. Was Omar and Cedric still smoking at the time? They do in one of the music videos, though, that's only a music video.

I saw this tabloid. It was about that couple from that damned royal wedding from a year or so ago. And it said "Inside thier private life" on the cover. And I thought, "well, it was thier private life untill you made a f**king magazine article on it!"
