So let me get this straight about the legality of these mp3 uploads:

Basically, they all exist solely on the artist's sufferance, and if the artist decides they do not want them available for streaming, they have a legal case if they wish to pursue it and so Progarchives must take them down. The only thing is that most bands don't have an issue with it and so the mp3s stay. Is that about right?

I think it's smart for bands to allow this stuff from a purely economic standpoint. I can say for a fact that every prog band I've bought CDs from has or at least had at one point streaming audio on this site, and that it was that audio that initially piqued my interest in them. Why King Crimson and the like can't see the marketing potential in this is beyond me.

I agree. Free streaming is a great way to get exposure. I have been checking out tons of bands on Spotify. Also, Progstreaming is another great website to here new Prog for free.

I wonder if some artists however feel they are established enough to not need this exposure.

I have a few mystery tracks that I would like to find out who the groups are.
Can I upload / attach to my post so members can review and perhaps answer who they are ?

They need to be 128kbs. The File Name should read Band - Album - Track Number - Track Name.

Like this:

Zip them up (if there is more than one file) and send them by "yousendit" or "megaupload" etc to
[email protected]
Thank you.

Errrrr, is it REALLY necessary to send files @ 128 kbps rate? I mean, I've got some rare material of Yonin Bayashi, but only at different bitrates (@192 and @224, more specifically). I'd love to share these.

Crimson don't need the marketing potential, they're their own marketing potential and always have been.  The amount of sales KC sees from someone hearing a clip is probably trivial.   Also if you know their history, you know they have a wary view of how their work is heard, and rightly so.

Is it possible to have album name for the mp3s too long? I'm asking cause I thought of sending a mp3 from this and don't want to break the player or something. The release is divided into first and second album though, so I could send something under those shorter titles maybe?

Hi friends,

I recently sent three Kettlespider mp3's to the email address provided. Only now did i read your suggested 'ratio' of songs to albums, so i'm just messaging to let you know that when you get the chance to load an mp3 onto the Kettlespider page, the best one to feature is the track called 'Avadante' - the title track from the debut album.

Thanks a lot!

Simon

Hi,

I sent an mp3 for the artist Afforested about 4 weeks ago but it has not appeared on the site yet. Is there just a huge backlog to get through or have I made a mistake in the way I sent it?
The address I sent it to was [email protected]
Thanks

UPDATE: Everythings sorted now. I hadn't named the file correctly.

Hello

I've sent some mp3 music from Violeta de Outono's new album "Espectro" (tracks 02, 05 and 09) asking to add them in the band's profile.

I'd like to know if this tracks (sent by yousendit) were received or if I have to try again or if there's any problem with the tracks.

Thanks a lot!

Hi. I uploaded 2 3RDegree tracks many weeks ago and they haven't shown up.  Can someone let me know if I need to send again?
