^No way. By 'failure' I mean 'massive disappointment'.

The only people disappointed with the film are ones that need a roadmap to tell them everything that's going on. The film is intentionally ambiguous mainly for the sake of subtlety and set up for a sequel, which I certainly hope will materialize. I predicted that Scott was not about to let us off the hook that easily. The fact that this film is being heavily debated all over the web (the film blogs are going crazy!) shows that Ridley's mission has been accomplished.

^If you mean that I was disapponted with ambiguity then you are totally wrong. This film is full of stupid dialogues, old boring cliches and illogicality.

And the only well-acted character is David by Michael Fassbender. All the other actors are seem to idle on set. Even Noomi Rapace who did great work in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
This night wounds time.

David is the most interesting character, the main character of the film I would argue, but plenty of other actors do a fine job with their roles.

Back to the Future
(yeah, yeah, you may have seen it a thousand times ... but those who didn't see it at least once or did see it just once but remember it vaguely, read on.)

It was a big deal for me then when I was ten, and it's quite a deal for me when I'm 21 ... not that I've seen it a lot. It just doesn't seem to get old ... in a way, albeit the characters and parts of the script written for the characters are pretty phony, which leads me to the following thought: those things need not be taken seriously. But I can't be that way and just let the director Robert Zemeckis get away with that. Could the movie be any better? If it was serious, than it probably wouldn't be as fun. What can I do? But do you really need sophisticated details for simple and quite novel ideas to be delivered? "I'm gonna cut you a break. So, for now, make like a tree and get out of here." Make like a tree? What does that mean? LOL

I must also mention that the movie has quite a few remarkable trump cards:
1) the relationship between Marty, the protagonist of the film, and his mom ... oh yeah!;
2) the comic nature of Dr. Emmett Brown, who has god knows how many watches;
3) the awesome scene with ... a-hem, ... basically, a guitar moment ... not that I want to retell it for ya or anything ... and not that it means a world to me, but probably a country. I've seen this movie quite a few times, and at any time of watching it I just couldn't wait for that scene to come up. "I guess you guys aren't ready for that ... but your kids are gonna love it." Is this not a classic?

Awesome movie. Perhaps the best sci-fi movie I've ever seen.

That's so interesting. Brilliant post, he certainly has caused a stir. Awesome Sir Scott!

I did also like John Carter a lot, but love prometheus. Seen it 3 times, and plan to see it a 4th time in a few days.
Seen it in every format too IMAX 3D, RealD 3D, and 2D.

The Man Nobody Knew

Antiseptic but reasonably good look at deceased CIA Director Bill Colby, who ran the Agency during its most turbulent post-WW II period, through the eyes of his son who does a good job as filmmaker.   Revealing more of the Cold War psyche than of the spy agency itself, the retrospective fills in some important little pieces regarding the subversive and illegitimate actions of U.S. statecraft.

8 1/2 by Fellini

Awesome! Stunning work of art, the story, the acting, the camera, the creativity, just fabulous. A must-watch.

Kurosawa's Dreams by Kurosawa

Probably better to watch the dreams separately with a gap of time, cause it's not necessarily a movie that will entertain you as a whole. Great dialogues, some emotional parts and others just mesmerizing. Preferred Rashomon, though, although it's clear that they're both worlds aparts in style.

I looked up in IMDB that this is drama and fantasy. No erotica, right?

No, why? I mean, there's a good bunch of gorgeous women, some act very sensual. I don't know where you're coming from to ask that.

I've read some very abstract, brief paragraphs about the film that seem to bear some implications. This actually looks like a movie I'd like to see since I haven't really seen Mastroianni in action and it got some praise. I just don't want to catch an act like some of the nasty stuff I saw on "The Man Who Fell To Earth". "Fantasy" ... "A picture that goes beyond what men think about - because no man ever thought about it in quite this way!" ... "While thinking, he starts to recall major happenings in his life, and all the women he has loved and left."

Bad Day at Black Rock

Engrossing suspense from 1954 with Spencer Tracey as a man investigating strange occurrences in a small Arizona town just after WW II.   Things slowly go from strange to tense when Tracey begins poking around where he shouldn't and rustles up a pack load of trouble for himself.   Stellar cast includes James Coburn, Ernest Borgnine, Anne Francis.

George Harrison:Living in the Material World

Beautiful and relaxed look at George Harrison through friends, loved ones, and himself.  Luckily the star is George's music which is used well, and at over three hours the film also provides an excellent angle on Beatles history.

The Tree of Life

Terrence Malick's experimental stream-of-consciousness quilt of image, music, memory and story works only within the laws by which it exists, beyond that it is not much more than a journey through imaginative filmmaking.   The movie plays more as a brilliant collection of trailers than a cohesive whole, but there is a beauty in Malick's madness, and not a little Kubrick influence either.   Too long to sit through and absorb as intended, sadly I can't recommend The Tree of Life to anyone but students of cinematography.

^ I remember sitting through this ... trying not to perceive the embarrassment, but I just kept feeling that it was embarrassing. Yes, I'm talking about the first "section" of the movie. I remember my mother calling it "something like National Geographic". The rest is good, ... pretty interesting. Pitt's character reminded me of my stepfather, being a sadist tight-a#$ that he was.

My Bodyguard

The coming of age classic from 1980 does exactly what it should and is as effective now as thirty-two years ago.  Chris Makepeace is perfect as a skinny new kid in school who employs the protective services of a reputed maniac.   Among the last of the great '70s youth films, and features Ruth Gordon and Martin Mull.
