Hi Everyone!
I'm Nick and have been posting quite regularly on PA since March of this year. Gotta say, I love the site! I'm posting to promote my group Within a Reverie. When pressed for a sub-genre classification, we submit that we're progressive hard rock (not an oxymoron, I promise, ). But, we find that "progressive," "progressive rock," and plain old "rock" fit the bill as well, depending on who we're talking with. We have several projects planned, each with its own variation on how we experiment with "the progressive." At the moment, we are currently in the mixing stage of our debut album, "Within a Reverie." While many progressive acts tend to eschew the standard verse/chorus pattern in their music, we are intentionally experimenting with it in our first two projects. The point of it is to see what can be done creatively with it--how many ways can we spin that format--while at the same time being more progressive with arrangement of instruments (as opposed to sections or movements) and individual instrument parts. Some of our influences include Megadeth, Black Sabbath, Debussy, Nobuo Uematsu, Bob Dylan, Alan Parsons Project and Thelonious Monk. Sounds like a motley batch of inspiration, and it is, but it all finds itself in there one way or another, sometimes obvious and sometimes not. As the rules of the forum dictate, people are supposed to post links and allow themselves to be judged. So, here goes! soundcloud.com/withinareverie (only three tracks up so far. two more coming soon, and a total of 9 for the project!) facebook.com/withinareverie withinareverie.blogspot.com Let the judgment begin, and please, feel free to... prog out! Nick ps. If you like what you hear please like us on FB or just get in touch with me, I love talking prog and music in general! Edited by Nick Dilley - August 27 2012 at 11:18 |

The three tracks on Soundcloud sound very promising indeed. I shall certainly be keeping an eye (ear?) out for the remainder of the album, and I can't see any problem whtsoever getting you added to the site once it is completed based on the evidence I have heard so far. Good stuff!

In case anyone is following this thread, we just posted a new track to Soundcloud. It is actually just a short solo guitar instrumental, but it is definitely a nice piece, and it has a fun backstory, which you can read on our blog.
Song here: http://soundcloud.com/withinareverie/midnight-meditation You can also read the backstory to the song here: http://withinareveriesongtalk.blogspot.com/ Enjoy! Nick |

Hey Dudes and the oh-so-rare-and-lovely-prog-gals,
Just posting to let you know we've put up an acoustic version (well more of a jam on) a track from our next album. It's quite different, as its missing distorted guitars, soloing bass and harmonized leads all over the place, but it's still cool. Check it out! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qn3rdnYiG9c if you want to watch it on our blog site, check it here: ...and stay to read some prog-related blogging greatness! Have a great week, fellow prog-cats! |

Oh and for you philosophizin' types, you might enjoy the fact that the tune is based on Heideggar's notion of an authentic person "being-towards-death."
At least....I find it interesting!! |

Just posted a video to our site that gives you a preview of our second album, through three guitar solos. It might be a bit misleading in that it makes the second album appear altogether metal. Future album previews will correct that. Enjoy!

Hey Guys!
Here's a new track from us! I'd be particularly interested in hearing whether anyone thinks it qualifies as prog. This album that we are doing is a progressive hard rock album that experiments specifically within verse/chorus structures. We're going to move beyond that on future releases, but I thought this is a good example of something that strays totally from a lot of common things in pop/rock music, while still coming off as a pop song in a lot of ways. Odd harmony, odd time signatures, and all sorts of craziness in a tight little package. Please enjoy and constructively critique the "progressiveness" of our track "The Ivory Stepping Stone." http://soundcloud.com/withinareverie/the-ivory-stepping-stone Edited by Nick Dilley - August 02 2012 at 15:04 |

If anyone is interested in seeing a short film-ish performance video (about 5 mins long) of a bass solo....check this out:
It's essentially a music video for a track on our album called "Midnight Meditation," but we decided to do a performance video, swap out guitar for bass, and recreate the story behind the song. It's as much a little movie about how the song on the album was written as it is a performance video. You can read about the song's backstory here: http://withinareveriesongtalk.blogspot.com/2012/06/midnight-meditation-composition-gearthe.html I hope y'all enjoy it! IF you like what you see/hear please check us out at: http://www.youtube.com/user/WithinAReverieMusic/videos and http://www.withinareverie.com Keep on a-proggin'! |

Hey guys,
We just finished another track for our debut album! This one (in my opinion) is much more fitted to the music lovers on PA than our other tracks. It's called "Fresh Eyes." http://soundcloud.com/withinareverie/fresh-eyes Thanks for listening! |
