Seriously, this makes me mad because I would've loved to have received a promo copy of this and if I had, I would've taken more time and put a lot more thought into my review:

No offense to anyone, but I find it funny that people consider Storm Corrosion to be "innovative" or "inventive." There are several acts who have been making similar music for a long time (and doing it better, in my opinion).

Agreed. The guy clearly listened to it once, with low expectations to begin with. |

Actually, I was talking amongst the collaborators over on MMA and it's highly possible that this guy didn't listen to the album at all. I mean, I've talked to people who actually professionally write reviews and Roadrunner is NOT giving out promotional copies. And if you read the guy's review, he says NOTHING. Not a single piece of information that couldn't be made up without having ever listened to the album. |

Well he could be some kind of co or whatev, because when you take a look at his review history, there are heaps of 'promo' copies. I am not sure what to think, but then again, if we can't prove anything, and he isn't breaking any of our guidelines, then just leave him be.

There are promo copies of Clockwork Angels and several reviews by "professional" reviewers have already been published elsewhere on the internet and in print.
We have to take the word of the reviewer when they say they have a promo copy.
Robbob's review follows the same format as his other reviews - they are not up to our standards which is why he is not a Prog Reviewer even with the huge number of reviews he has written.
If I was a record promoter I would not be sending him any promos based upon his reviews, but marketing is marketing and I doubt that any of these record labels bother to check the credentials of anyone who asks for promo copies for review. Edited by Dean - June 05 2012 at 02:50 |

Quite the coincidence this review comes a few hours after the album has leaked, so I'm not inclined to believe the reviewer's claim. |

Sure, and two weeks from now this review will be totally burried and forgotton under piles of (hopefully) more informative points of views, so it's no big deal. |

Citizen Cain - Skies Darken
this writer tries to be extra funny, just look at the last sentence ... I'm not sure if this fails the guidelines, a doubtful behaviour at least ... I do hate such an approach |

It's like writing "I like it" 33 times then "Goodbye". I have to say that after reading it I know of this album exactly the same as before (I've never heard that band).

^ cheeky beggar. I've removed the offending sentence entirely so it will no longer count as a written review and sent him a PM (shame really as he's clearly a good writer and knowledgeable about music)

I saw that Rush review too and it was really Rush-ed The problem I have is not that it is a bad review but that it was reviewed before the album appears even in the magazine! The Mags are being shipped out now and will turn up in letter boxes in a couple of days then I will begin to take note of them. Of course i will write my own but not on first listen or even 4th listen. Rush take a while to sink in and deserve better than a gut reaction like that poor excuse of a review offers

^ I think the recent furore over PA's credibility suffering due to the latest prog albums or artists not being added immediately upon release is a tad overstated. The benefits of rushing an artist/band into an inappropriate genre just to get them listed provides us with....what exactly? A trickle of very badly written, ill informed and disingenuous reviews that will only serve to diminish our credibility even further.
You remember this dialogue from the movie 'Colors?' Young Bull: Hey pop, let's say we run down there and f*ck one of them cows Old Bull: No son. Lets walk down and f*ck 'em all |

Over at MMA, there is a different outlook I think. We only get a few thousand hits a day, so we need more attention. So we want to get the artists and albums up as soon as possible because if you get a review up close to the release date, the band posts a link on facebook or twitter or what have you, and there's potential for raising the number of hits the page gets. So by all means, take your time getting artists up over here.

I still think there should be a more formal process on this site, but whatevs. I've accepted it will never happen. I think MMA has their sh*t together more, jsut because they have way more volunteers, due to there beign way more metalheads than proggers. I think it's hilarious they have more genres than we do. And people say prog fans are way to analytical and snobby. At least we don't come up with stuff as bad as Nu Post Djentcore

Actually, I think it's the other way around, Failcore - as I understand it on PA every single band must be voted in. This slows things way down when most or all of the collaborators don't know anything about the band. On MMA we're kind of on the honor system - if you're absolutely 100% sure where a band goes you can add them no questions asked, and just report your activities. But if there's any doubt you're supposed to put it up for a vote. It's this way on MMA because there's a lot of work to do right now. Also, while it may look like we have a lot of collaborators, if you look at some of their profiles you'll see a lot haven't been active on a while, sadly. So, sometimes we are a lot faster than PA. Sometimes not so much.
