Oh lord, Dean, you really haven't heard about Ashlee Simpson? She is THE symbol of what is wrong with the music industry today. She is the Wizard of Oz as it were! Please go google "Ashlee Simpson Debaucle". I'll sum up what happened though. First, she was on SNL and there was a flub where it was revealed that she lip syncs. No big surprise there. But that's not where the story ends, because then it was revealed that she is tone deaf: today.msnbc.msn.com/id/6791368 |
2005? Oh for crying out loud Geoff, get with the bloody times will you, I'm 54 years old and live 5000 miles away from the Orange Bowl in Miami, I'm sure that must have been devastating for you as a young impressionable american to have held a grudge for seven years, but no, I really haven't heard about it.

No grudge here. I'm using her as an example - one of many that exist to prove that the music industry has lost its way. You jumped to her defense, so I showed you why there is no defense for her. Grudge? No, I'm happy that the illusion was broken.

No offense, but it's not the first time that has happened. Have you ever heard of Milli Vanilli? They were a very popular pop group in the 80s that got caught lip synching, which I believe ruined their careers.

Exactly my point, Darkshade. Ashlee Simpson is merely an example. A hilarious one. But I believe she is merely one of many possible examples.

I didn't jump anywhere - I didn't know of her music career, I looked it up, I saw nothing that would make her enfant terrible of the music industry, but as I said "evidently you know more about her than I do".
But you do make I larf and I should be thankful for that on a nondescript bankholiday Monday in June.

His name is Toby Driver, you should check him out. |
I have heard a few MoTW and Kayo Dot albums. Very interesting stuff, but I wouldn't call him a genius either.

Marillion mimed when they performed Garden Party on the BBC. Even Yo-yo Ma has been know to mime live. Milli Vanilli's failure was not that they lipsynced live, but it wasn't even their voices on the recording they were miming to.

I still have yet to understand how Toby is such a genius, but I do enjoy some of his music.

That's why I brought them up as their incident was worse than Ashlee Simpson's "debacle"

Well, I'm glad I made you laugh, though I'm never sure if it's for the same reasons I do with you. But believe me - no grudge: I LOVE to hate pop music. It's like a hobby, and I find great enjoyment from it. Take this, probably my favorite video on the intertubes, as an example:

But it's attitude's like that that make other people think prog rock fans are snobs, when I would argue many members here are some of the most open minded music listeners, with diverse tastes.

I like some music that might be considered pop, but I agree about loathing the so-called "manufactured" pop stars.

Why exactly would you love to HATE something that is just a piece of music?

This brings me back to the Love/Hate threads that were popular here last week, and that is, why would you waste your time and breath with something you don't care for in art? I'd rather spend that time in searching for more music that I like.

It is still just a piece of music. If I don't like it, I won't listen to it again, matter ends. Don't you think you are complicating this for yourself a wee bit?

It's kind of like hating Sarah Palin. It's sooo fun to do. You should try it.
