OK...the winky face indicates a joke, I guess, but you've lost meWink

Of course some laws make sense and are even good, but as I've said a hundred times, government is really just people...and as people we need to prove our worth, so everything ALWAYS gets taken overboard. Which is a shame when good laws do become jokes...

I'm sure the tall buildings are crawling with liberals.

Some laws telling us what we can or can not do are stupid, some are not. Wink

Crawling? I don't know if I'd say crawling but of course there's plenty.

Well first it's a city of what? 7 million people? So there's gunna be quite a number of everyone there, relative to the general population.
The only really conservative area though is Staten Island, though of course like any place there's plenty who aren't...they just don't get representedLOL   The last blue collar, old school italian place left in NYC.
Most of those have moved to Long Island, Westchester County, or NJ since the 1970s

Oh I love local politics too much...anywho point was it's a liberal city and since liberalism these days = making stupid ass laws telling us what we can/can't do...this is just going with the flow.

Yeah, I'm sure that ban on large sodas is going to be a big gulp in the war against obesity. LOL

By the way, NYC is crawling with conservatives. Shocked

Mayor Bloomberg, as head of a good liberal city, is continuing to do what good liberals do....make more ridiculous infringements on rights!

A ban on large sodas.
It's pretty much universal for all venues.

Not only wrong, but as usual it's utterly silly because there's no ban on large other things that are bad for you.

Classic

Western civilization could use a collapse.

My tears are reserved, from a cultural point of view, to western culture. Of course many other things in other aspects of life are collapsing too.

I think what we got here is approaching perhaps the end of human civilization as we have lived through as it has existed the last 50 years. Bolshevism is a terrible manifestion of I think will come about.

Pat Buchanan generally makes me want to run far away from anything he says. Has a bit of a "moral conservative" streak in him, which is the worst sh*t out there, and is just one of those paranoid people I think. Wants to just wall us off and cower in the corner worrying about what other people thousands of miles away are doing. Other people are scary. OK maybe a bit much, but that's just how he strikes me.

The fear surrounding Buchanan's really puzzles me. He most of the time offers nothing but really practical political advice and relevant history. He's analysis of U.S. Foreign affairs usually hits the nail right on the head. His weakness would be political philosophy and economics. He's right sometimes and kinda far off other times, but I don't think he's ever a bumbling idiot or some extreme radical. He happens to be wrong on protectionism and his support of Hamilton's programs in general.
I used to think he was so different from what he actually is. I actually love most of what he writes. I'm reading "Churchill, Hitler and the Unnecessary war" right now and so far I agree with him in every single word. I also have his latest book waiting on my shelves. I agree with him moat of the times.

Well, my friend's predecessors come from an old German merchant family in Hamburg and the experiences that their family shared with me is probably different from your Germanophile tendencies. I'm afraid they've lost their German pride after their family got ridiculously wealthy and now they're all not so wealthy anymore... due to some events that we all know....They love their culture and their heritage, but they are upset by the current world events that are happening. I think it's completely out of control of us the common people. Even though they're Teutonic warriors inside, I think there was a common consensus that what we share that traditional culture might be lost forever.

There's not one inch of German blood in my body though you can say I've always felt linked to that great nation. In Ecuador (in South America in general) there are lots of schools (they ran from 1st to 12th grade, there's no division like in the US) that are sponsored by and teach like specific European nations and cultures. There is an Alianz Francaise, there's even an American School (curiously, their students hav ethe reputation of being the most materialistic, money-driven of all), and of course there is a Deutsche Schule, or German school, where germans living in Ecuador can put their children in an all-German 12-year school path, or anybody else can put their children in a 12 year path where they will learn German starting in 3rd grade all the way up to 12th, where they will start learning chemistry (of all things) in German by 8th grade, and where the entire thing will be molded like in Germany. I was put in that school from Kindergarten, so I actually had 14 years of German-style education. Also, my sister went to the same school and she migrated the Germany 20 years ago (she is 41). She lives in Switzerland since three years ago more or less. I've always loved Germany, and its culture. All my main musical culture (my main passion) is Germanic in origin too (see below). But no, I've no Teutonic past. I always root for Germany in the World Cup every four years of course. Few people that go to the Deutsche Schule leave it hating Germany. On the contrary. And even fewer will hate it after visinting that mighty nation twice (I was there in 1997 but this time, older and much wiser, was so much better).

I completely agree with your first statement, but unfortunately it is what it is, right? And how there is now going to be massive global booms and busts..... That's how I always look at things these days.....

Cool, are you originally of German descent? One of my good friends from high school comes from Hamburg and we went backpacking around Germany....I tend to try to enjoy the good side of things that a country has to offer with natural beauty the foremost attraction.....
