This Forum's Wink Emoticon

... Is a right little smart ass don't you think? Everytime I see someone use it, it gives off this condescending vibe. Annoying really. Is that what it's meant for, or is it actually a more friendly wink?    

To me it means, "this sentence may sound like I'm belittling you, but I'm really not".

Kind of like saying "no offense, but...." and then saying something offensive.

Still, I feel compelled to use this emoticon, as it's my only way of hinting that I'm not being completely serious.  I have a dry sense of humor, and that's hard to put across with just text.

In the olden days like the time I connected the network over to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe, so, I decided to connect to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. FDR beat him by a furlong, or so the comic books would have you believe. The truth lies somewhere in between.

So it looks like about half the people take offense to it, and the other half don't.  Great. 

Makes one pause for thought. I have been offending about half the people here regularly for seven years and I didn't even know it. And maybe those people have been deliberately trying to offend me in return and I never noticed.
