Fun question: if the Mane Six were into prog rock, what would their favorite albums be? I've got ideas for some of them:Twilight Sparkle - Close to the Edge by Yes. I think she'd appreciate the complexity and intricacy of the compositions, and she'd have a wonderful time trying to figure out what in the blue blazes Anderson is singing about. Plus, it contains the term "Total Mass Retain." How could she not love that?
Rainbow Dash - 2112 by Rush. It's pretty simplistic and accessible as prog rock goes, and I think it'd appeal to Dash's shorter attention span. She'd enjoy the brash, agressive hard-rock sound and would probably really love the 2112 story, considering how rebellious and fiercely independent she is. Pinkie Pie - Hamburger Concerto by Focus. Just her style: great music that doesn't take itself too seriously, with catchy melodies and energetic musicianship. Also, I now have this picture in my mind of Pinkie singing along with Thijs van Leer's gibberish vocal solos. Applejack - Song for America by Kansas. Not only is it prog with a slight country-rock edge, but I think the generally straightforward rock attitude would really suit her. The longer pieces might lose her just a bit, though, but I like to think she'd have enough patience for them. As for Fluttershy and Rarity...I don't know. Fluttershy would probably like some kind of soft, melodic prog-folk thing, which I wouldn't know much about. No ideas at all about Rarity, though.

Maybe Songs From the Wood or something for Fluttershy, not sure about Rarity but it'd have to be sophisticated.

Applejack - Aqualung and Song for America and Point of No Return (there's no way she wouldn't love "Dust in the Wind")
Rainbow Dash - I think Hemispheres - Moving Pictures seems her style, but she'd probably enjoy the modern heavy catchy songs of Porcupine Tree and might even like prog metal . Pinkie Pie - In the Land of Grey and Pink and probably tons of other wacky Canterbury things. Twilight Sparkle - Probably any one of the longer Yes epic albums, and she's probably be able to get into the "pretentious" Tales from Topographic Oceans the most, and I for some reason think she'd like digging into the classic RIO bands as well if only just for fun. Rarity - Phantasmagoria by Curved Air Fluttershy - Animals, and I'd imagine her to be a huge Sigor Ros fan too. and they all regularly go to Meshuggah shows when they come to town.

I think Fluttershy would listen to some feel-good prog, such as Flower Kings or Moon Safari.

I hope Derpy gets more speaking lines in season 3.
Season 3 seems so far away.

^ Agreed! Apple Bloom has already had two episodes of her own, and Sweetie Belle's had at least one. Scoots deserves a chance to shine.
