That's ture. There should be a way one can be exempt from the law if certain conditions are met.

Or just make the punishment less severe. Like mandated community service or something. But jail?

I missed like 30 days during my senior year and the principal just told me to stop.

She could just go to school and then not have to go to jail.

There is that. I mean, she's a straight A student in the 11th grade, are you really going to miss that much more information if you drop out? And if you are, is said information worth going bankrupt and losing everything you have untill all you have is your family?

It was totally cool because it was when I was suicidally depressed, and they thought kicking me out and not letting me graduate might be a bad idea.

It's probably more important for her to get her diploma than anything.

Dropping out of high school is a very stupid idea, but so is jailing students after missing so many days. I think a fine or something would be more appropriate. People go to jail for crimes, not simple misdemeanors.

A fine and community service makes more sense to me than jail.

Community service would probably be the best idea, because even though high school kids would totally hate it, it would look good on their transcript or whatever (that they did community service) and they might be thankful for it later.

I can't imagine that having a positive effect.

Is there a certain album you'd recommend?

I'd recommend Christmas but I've only heard two albums so far.

Yeah, but she spends most of her time going to school and going to work, it's unlikley she'll have time.

Then they should lay off of her life a little bit since she is obviously drowned in adult responsibilities. Even jobs will give their employees some slack if they're having trouble at home, and college pretty much let you do what you want at your own risk. There's no reason for states to act like high school is the most important, dire thing a person will do in their life by setting up arbitrary punishments like jail time.

In cases like hers if she can prove she's providing for herself and people who are dependent on her school attendance should be able to be waived.
