'Twas indeed a most frustrating end to the season, but at least it's now the cricket season. Ahhh, real traditional English sport. Lazy hazy long summer days, the clink of Pimms glasses, polite applause, the thwack of leather on willow and in the background the dulcet tones of the Barmy Army choir.
I told ya AOM's first two were nothing special
![]() Lately I've been playing to death an album by Amplifier called The Octopus, a double disc megathon of heavy psychedelic-tinged indie prog. It's fantastic and my favourite prog album of 2011.
Karmakanic's latest has been growing on me too.
My last TFK cd? As I recall I actually got Adam and Eve + Flower Power as my joint last two, but it was the latter I actually played last. My first was Stardust We Are which was sufficient to totally knock me over. I simply couldn't believe I had stumbled upon a band so incredibly good, and that without Progarchives I'd never have discovered. Now that is a sobering thought.

I discovered TFK (and many more bands) thanks to PA.
I heard the first AoM album when it came out, and disliked it immensely. Never heard Dramarama. I still only think The Black Forest is ok, I should revisit that one soon. 1 more page until we hit 200 pages! And a good month before Banks of Eden comes out. ![]() |

My most recent TFK purchase was the Tour Kaputt CD and DVD. The last CD purchase was The Sum of No Evil. Dream Theater led me to Transatlantic which led me to TFK. Back In the World Adventures was my first purchase and I loved it. Retropolis was next and I loved it too, and I was hooked and went on a buying spree until I had the rest of the catalogue. I am pretty sure that my first new release purchase was The Rainmaker, but it may have been Unfold The Future. I've always been kind of lukewarm on Space Revolver and Stardust We Are. Not really sure why, seeing that they are favorites around here. Flower Power was actually a really late purchase for me and I've never really given it the listens it deserves. I think that Adam and Eve, Paradox Hotel, and The Sum of No Evil are all great albums too. I would still like to track down a couple of live albums: Alive On Planet Earth, Live In New York-The Official Bootleg, and Brimstoned In Europe.
The sad thing is that as much as I love listening to TFK I really haven't listened to them enough to know them as well as I would like to. I generally don't pay that much attention to what is playing while I am playing them, so I can't really join in the discussions of what songs I like the most or dislike the most, because I can't really associate song titles with songs. I don't know how you guys are able to do that.

^ Sounds like a discography run-through is in order.
I haven't been listening to much TFK lately, so I forget how some songs go. Ive been focusing on getting more Spock's Beard albums, as I only have 5 at this point. It's funny, after I got heavily into Transatlantic, Spock's Beard "V" was the first album I got once I branched out into the Transatlantic family tree. But I never got into them as much as TFK, The Tangent, Karmakanic, etc. Neal's solo albums appealed more even, probably because of Portnoy on drums. I also am sort of holding off until June when BoE comes out. I'm sure I'll be TFK-crazy around that time. |

First thing I decided to listen to today was Transatlantic - "The Whirlwind" Bonus Disc, and it's really enjoyable, especially when not considering the main album. By itself, it's some enjoyable prog, and is really a nice mix of TFK and SB/Morse with DT drumming. And you still get The Whirlwind theme in there with Such A Time.
As for the covers, they're just alright, but the Santana cover is the best! |

Agh, listening to Transatlantic's cover of Giant Hogweed makes me want to get back into Genesis.

Transatlantics cover is better really.....except for the vocals.
It's like DT's covers - all better than the originals !!! They should do 2112/Hemispheres !!!

I may have a day like that in July. I have a vacation week that will have at least one day dedicated to just listening to music. TFK will probably be the band of choice, if I'm in the mood. Right, I forgot you had done that recently. Yea the marathon I did was the last time I listened to much TFK. I only listened to BITWOA and TSONE a couple times since. -------------- Dream Theater covers are usually better than the originals, though I don't know about their cover of Larks' Tongues In Aspic 2 and To Tame A Land. The former was really awesome until halfway through, and they couldn't keep the energy up, unlike King Crimson did. The latter is much better when Iron Maiden plays it. Also their Master of Puppets album cover was just ok. Their cover of Odyssey by Dixie Dregs was a lot better than the original however. As was their cover of Achilles' Last Stand from the A Change of Seasons EP. Their cover of Dark Side of the Moon was good, better than I thought. But you can't replace the original. |

darkshade...those LOST pictures!!
![]() anyway, i need to be totally focused to listen to TFK, DT, SB. it's definitely not dance around the room, rock out music. i'm really liking the storm corrosion album. warm yet creepy. not bad. Flying Colors is not holding up. that dude's voice is quite annoying at times. should've been an EP. as far as Morse's solo album coming up...how good can it be. the guy has got to be running dry after all his projects in the last 20 years.

Just Listened to Anubis - Tower of Silence - twas saved by the last track which is reasonable - one for the collection only me-thinks....So listemed to "Garden of Dreams" (for guaranteed enjoyment - The final instrumental movement is possibly in the top 10 symphonic prog moments of all-ttime - it's just pure genius.....over indulgence at it's pompous best - I love it.
I want pomposity.....I reckon TFK should re-do "The Lamb" by Genesis - it would be a monster seller as well - If they were allowed to do it of course.....

Not that everyone need have the same opinion, but give AToS a couple more listens before giving up on it. On my first couple of listens I was underwhelmed. But now I can't imagine why. It now find it one of the best albums of the century! I constantly have it running through my head, even if I haven't listened to it in weeks. Not just one song, but every single one! Anyway....!

I will probably have another listen...I didn't think too much of "Garden of Dreams" on the first listen - and it's in my top 10 tracks of all time now..The first track was OK and the last - Mind you - the CD is too vocal's dominated - and the instrumental parts did not WOWSER me like the recent Nexus CD's I have purchased.
