Hell yea, The Sum of No Evil is straight up the best thing for 2000s TFK, just behind UtF.

I haven't gotten around to re-listening to A&E yet. If not tonight, maybe tomorrow.

What's so wrong with Sum of No Evil?  I thought Sum of No Reason was one of the best compositions they've ever done.  7 opinions does not the whole represent...

Eh, The Sum of No Evil was never one of my favorites, it's all about individual opinions.  Again, as with all Flower Kings CD's, it's a fantastic CD, though for me at least, its not in the top echelon.  My three absolute favorite FK albums, Space Revolver, Unfold the Future and Paradox Hotel all come from the 2000's as well so at best Sum would be the fourth best 2000's CD for me.  Fifth if I was having a 'good' Rainmaker day (which I do sometimes).

that poll is great for sum of all opinions. Median score would prob be Best but yeah the sample is small. Anyway flower power and stardust are claasicsand great for newboes who are ready into symph prog. My post above was concerning how refreshing sum was after living with Adam and eve for awhile. Both are great and are different. For me paradox and unfold are good but long and experimental. Sometimes I'm in the mood for that. Other times want straight up concise prog album. That's where sum comes in. Adam and eve is it's own beast and exactly the album the boys needed to make at that time. Given that context it is awesome and although I may not dig some of the tunes (vamp) I still respect and appreciate it. I have a feeling that vamp view will someday be o e of my favs. That's why I love tfk. Each album continues to get under my skIn over the years. Here's to a decade with banks of Eden!

I agree that TSONE sounds great; it has a very warm and organic production that sounds tremendous on a good stereo.  But while the songwriting is good, it doesn't have anything that blows my doors off.  Nothing on it is what I would call a TFK classic or one of their best tunes.  It's a solid, consistent listen from start to finish, but with so many great albums, most of which are far better, why waste my time listening to a solid album, when I am in the mood for TFK, when I can be listening to one of many great albums?

I don't know. I had Love Is The Only Answer stuck in my head for days last month. And I love One More Time and The Sum of No Reason a lot. I guess I'm the token fan of that album, like some are fans of other albums here.

It's rated higher than A&E Wink  So I guess his point still stands Big smile

Also, I think SR and FP are excellent albums, so I think that's fair enough (though CD2 OF FP is my least favorite CD of FK's music).

I think the problem with Sum is that it's what the FK's thought their fans wanted to hear.  Pure symphonic bombast with no "filler".  I think they should have ignored what they though the fans wanted and just done whatever appealed to them.

A friend once told me he thought Sum sounded like a fusing of The Rainmaker and Unfold.  I always felt that was a fair assessment.  I enjoy the album, but it always falls short of blowing me away.  It's one of those that excited me on first listen, but steadily became less interesting with each play (though it's still a very good album, don't get me wrong).

I actually think that Sum proves that Flower Kings albums are just not the same without the so-called "filler".  Still, I like it much more than A&E, CD two of Flower Power, and even Rainmaker.  I can't rate it higher than any others though, except possibly Roine's TFK album (and I'm not even sure about that).

Like I have said many times, the great thing about TFK is the many different styles that you hear on every album, and in the case of TSONE, it is nothing but symphonic prog (and not even great symphonic prog, IMO).  The balance is what makes TFK awesome.

^ Thanks for the link, but I'm not trying to hear anything until the album comes out. I already heard some snippets a few weeks back, and it was more than enough to know that Banks of Eden is probably going to blow the last few TFK albums out of the water.

I was thinking the same Tom.  A peek on the usual suppliers shows the product info to be a bit sketchy and I want to make sure I'm getting the right edition.  Amazon definitely have the correct 2 cd edition, but £19?  They must be having a laaarf.

Yeah, I'm actually going to wait until Greg Walker gets copies.  He's planning on getting all editions, so I don't think it will be an issue.  In the past I never pre-ordered Flower Kings albums because they were usually cheaper after they had been released (Unfold was the exception, as I was able to order the special edition for $14! back then......those days are gone I'm afraid).  In any case, Amazon.com shows the special edition for $44.......I'm sorry, there is no way I'm paying $44 for ANY CD, even a double Flower Kings.  The single CD is available for $14.89, but I must have the special edition.  As you say Roj, it's very unclear what you are getting as all editions on Amazon list 1 CD.

Anyway, I'm not worried, as I've always been able to get them after release for a decent price.

I'm almost positive my local shop will have it (both editions), as they recently stocked up on TFK albums in the last few months. I'm not 100% though, but I'll ask someone there next time I go. I want to support any band I buy albums from, but I also want to support my local shop, as they are one of the last of a near-extinct breed.
